For Linux(R) (x86) Systems HA Monitor Cluster Software

6.5.1 Settings required for resetting hosts and using SCSI reservation for shared disk

The settings listed below are required when hosts are reset as well as when SCSI reservation for shared disk is used. These settings are related to the shared disk that is subject to hot standby processing by HA Monitor.

These settings are not required when both the following conditions are satisfied:

Organization of this subsection

(1) Specifying the device type of the shared disk to be allocated to the virtual machine

In VMware vSphere Client, you must specify Raw device mapping for the shared disk that will be allocated to the virtual machine. To specify the shared disk:

For a version earlier than VMware ESXi6
  1. Connect to VMware ESXi with VMware vSphere Client.

  2. Open the window used for editing the virtual machine settings, and then click Add.

  3. Select Hard disk as the type of device to be added, and then click Next.

  4. Select Raw device mapping as the type of disk to be used.

For VMware ESXi6 or a later version
  1. Connect to VMware ESXi with VMware vSphere Client.

  2. Open the window used for editing the virtual machine settings, and then click Edit.

  3. Click Virtual Hardware, and then select Add hard disk and then New raw disk.

  4. Select Physical as Disk Compatibility.

For a virtual device node that is selected during this setup, we recommend that you select a new virtual device node for the shared disk (such as [SCSI (1:0)]).

If you use SCSI reservation for shared disk, also specify the settings described in 6.5.3 Settings required for using SCSI reservation for shared disk.

(2) Specifying the sharing of the SCSI bus

You must set the sharing of the SCSI bus to Physical so that the SCSI bus can be shared between virtual machines and between chassis.

To specify the sharing of the SCSI bus:

  1. Connect to VMware ESXi with VMware vSphere Client.

  2. Open the window used for editing the virtual machine settings.

  3. Select SCSI controller, and then select Physical for sharing the SCSI bus.
