6.4 Specifying settings for using SCSI reservation for shared disk
This section explains the settings for using SCSI reservation for shared disk in HA Monitor.
In a VMware ESXi-based virtualization environment, a single path configuration is normally assumed because paths are switched by VMware ESXi even in a redundant configuration. The following figure shows an example of a VMware ESXi-based virtualization environment in which Fibre Channel connections are employed in a redundant configuration.
If you configure the OS on a virtual machine to directly recognize the shared disk with iSCSI connection, you can also use VMware ESXi's optional functions, such as vMotion. In this case, set up VMware ESXi to recognize only the LANs, not the shared disk. In a redundant configuration, use the multipath software (DMMP) with the OS on the virtual machine. In this configuration, DMMP switches paths.
The following figure shows an example of a redundant configuration that uses DMMP in a VMware ESXi-based virtualization environment.
