10.7.1 About the HDP facility

The HDP facility provides virtual volumes to a server machine and allocates the necessary amount of real space in response to data write requests from the server machine.

Creating HiRDB file system areas in virtual volumes makes it easier to expand the file size than when HiRDB file system areas are created in real volumes.

If a data write request is issued while the DP pool size is insufficient, an I/O error occurs. Therefore, it is important to monitor the DP pool size so that a capacity shortage does not occur. For details about how to check the size of the DP pool, see the HDP facility documentation.
