3.5 Heap Usage pane
Use the Heap pane to view the heap usage information (in a graphical form) of all the clustered and non-clustered Java EE server(s). You can also use this graph to confirm the memory usage by the application(s) and make a decision to run FullGC to avoid slow down.
Pane components
List of pane items
The Heap pane displays the following items:
- Heap Usage graph
-
The Heap Usage graph is a graph of JavaHeap Usage [KB] against time. The Heap Usage graph of Java EE servers is displayed based on the state of the Total graph legend and Java EE server graph legend check boxes. If the monitoring level is OFF for the Java EE server, then the graph of the corresponding Java EE server is not displayed.
- Total graph legend
-
Displays the Total graph legend check box. To display the total Heap Usage graph in the Heap Usage graph display area, select the Total graph legend check box. The Heap Usage graph is the sum of the Java heap memory used by all the Java EE server(s). To hide the total in Heap Usage graph, clear the Total graph legend check box. By default, this check box is selected.
- Java EE server graph legend
-
Displays check boxes for all the clustered and non-clustered Java EE servers, as graph legends. To display the Heap Usage graph of a Java EE server in the Heap Usage graph display area, select the corresponding check box. To hide the Heap Usage graph of a Java EE server, clear the corresponding check box. By default, check boxes of all the clustered and non-clustered Java EE server(s) are selected. The display of Java EE servers depend on the order in which they are received in the response. The sort order is not maintained.
- Range selection button
-
Enables you to view the Heap Usage graph for a particular time in the given range. The available selection range is as follows:
- Upper bound range: 0 hour(s) before the current time
- Lower bound range: 12 hour(s) before the current time
Displays the range (as a tool tip) when you click the Range selection button.
The Heap pane displays the following action items:
- Hide/Unhide legend button
-
To hide or display the legends of a graph, click the Hide/Unhide legend button.
- Collapsible button
-
To expand or collapse the Heap pane, click the Collapsible button.
- Maximize/Restore button
-
To maximize or restore the Heap pane, click the Maximize/Restore button. When maximized, this pane covers the entire area of the Home tab. When restored, this pane restores to its original size.
Important Notes
- If the Heap Usage graph displays a scroll bar, the vertical scroll and the Hide/Unhide button overlaps.
- If you click the Hide/Unhide graph legend button and add or delete lengthy Java EE servers or more Java EE servers, then the graph pane does not resize when the module is refreshed. To see the resized pane, you must login again to the Administration Console.
- If you change the password for the Domain Administration Server (DAS), then to get the monitoring data you must log on to the Administration Console again by using the new password. From the time the password for the DAS is changed, until you log on to the Administration Console again, the Heap graph displays 0 because the monitoring service of the Administration Console cannot get the data during this period.
- If the total size of the graph is less than 2 GB, then the entire graph is displayed. If the total size of the graph is 2 GB or more, then the entire graph will not be displayed.
- When the server instance is not running, if the same JMX connection port is specified for a different server instance on another node or domain, and that server instance is running, then the heap graph for the stopped server instance may be displayed.
