4.4.1 About installation types of Application Server

You can use the following types of installation to install Application Server: new installation, multiple installations, additional installation, and overwrite installation.

The types of installation that you can use to install Application Server are as follows:

New installation

In this type of installation, you install Application Server on a computer in which Application Server and Application Server for Developers have not been installed. You can use one of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install: Standard, Custom, or Redirector.

Multiple installations

In this type of installation, you install Application Server into a different directory on a computer in which Application Server has already been installed. You can use one of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install: Standard, Custom, or Redirector.

Use this type of installation if you want multiple instances of Application Server to co-exist in the same computer. For example, by having different versions of Application Server on the same computer, you can update an execution environment while leaving the execution environment before the update.

Additional installation

In this type of installation, install Application Server version 10 or later into a different directory on a computer on which one of the following environments has been installed:

Application execution environment of version 9 or earlier
Application development environment of version 9 or earlier
Application Server for Developers version 10 or later

You can use one of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install: Standard, Custom, or Redirector.

Use this type of installation if you want different versions or editions of Application Server to co-exist in the same computer. For example, you can install a development environment (Application Server for Developers) and an execution environment (Application Server) in the same computer. You can perform an additional installation of Application Server version 10 or later into a machine in which the application execution environment version 9 or earlier has already been configured.

Overwrite installation

In this type of installation, you install the same edition of Application Server on a computer in which Application Server has already been installed. Application Server that was installed earlier is overwritten. You can use one of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install: Standard, Custom, or Redirector.

You can use one of the following installation options to select the programs that you want to install:

Standard: The Standard installation option selects all the programs for installation. This installation option is recommended.
Custom: The Custom installation option enables you to select specific programs for installation. This installation option is applicable for users and system administrators who are familiar with the functionality of Application Server.
Redirector: The Redirector installation option is used to install the Redirector functionality only.
