1.1.1 Setup Wizard
The Setup Wizard is a tool to setup the execution environment of J2EE applications by performing interactive operations in accordance with the instructions on the wizard. Tasks can be performed interactively by selecting the required settings in the dialog box and therefore determining the complex parameters or editing the definition files in advance is not required. This tool is suitable for setting up the Web front system (a system for allocating the Web server and the J2EE server) that is used to operate J2EE applications.
When the Application Server version is 11-00 or later, you cannot use compatibility mode when setting up the J2EE server in the Setup Wizard.
Also, you can specify minimum required procedures, and minimum required items to perform the setup in an environment where J2EE applications are to be operated and thereby reduce the time required to start the system after product installation. You can also tune the setup system. Initially, you can start the system operations with minimum settings, and then perform operations such as optimizing the system settings according to the operational status or enhancing the system configuration.
The following figure shows an example of system setup by using the Setup Wizard:
You can execute the following operations in a batch according to the instructions in the Setup Wizard dialog box.
-
Setting up the processes (management functionality) required for system operations
-
Setting up the processes (Web server, the J2EE server, and performance tracer) required for system execution
-
Setting up a resource adapter required for connecting to the database.
-
Starting the management functionality, Web server, the J2EE server, and performance tracer.
Note that you can set up and start the business applications by using the management portal after executing the Setup Wizard.
The Setup Wizard provides the following setup methods:
-
A setup method to specify default values for all the settings. You can specify default values for the system that connects to the database, except for the settings of the database to be used. You can set up a system configured with Web server and the J2EE server.
-
A setup method that allows you to change values such as the user who uses the management functionality, and the port number to be used in each server, to any value. You can use the default values as is for the items, if the setup values of those items are not to be changed. You can set up a system with Web server and the J2EE server, as well as a system with the J2EE server.
For the default values of Setup Wizard, see Appendix A Parameters set up by using the Setup Wizard.
