5.2.2 Assigning group names
You can specify names for host groups and ID groups using a maximum of 32 bytes. However, the following restrictions apply:
-
You cannot use the following single-byte characters.
Exclamation marks (!), double quotation marks ("), percent signs (%), apostrophes ('), asterisks (*), periods (.), forward slashes (/), colons (:), left angle brackets (<), right angle brackets (>), question marks (?), at marks (@), backslashes (\), and vertical bars (|).
-
The name cannot contain spaces.
-
Because host names are not case-sensitive, you cannot use a name that is the same as another except for case.
You can create a maximum of seven tiers of host groups. The group names you specify must be such that the total length from the top group to the bottom group plus the host name does not exceed 255 bytes. This includes the delimiters between group names and the delimiter before the host name.
