4.3.2 Installation procedure for PFM - Agent for Platform

To install Performance Management programs on a UNIX host, you can either use the distribution media or remotely install them using JP1/Software Distribution. For details about how to use JP1/Software Distribution, see the following manuals:

Important

Depending on the machine environment, directory and file names might differ from those indicated in the manuals. Use the ls command to check the correct directory and file names in your environment. When you execute the command that starts Hitachi PP Installer, specify the directory and file names displayed by the ls command.

The following explains the installation procedure for each OS when you use the distribution media.

Organization of this subsection

(1) For HP-UX

To install Performance Management programs using the distribution media:

  1. At the host where the programs are to be installed, log in as a superuser, or use the su command to change the user to a superuser.

  2. Stop any Performance Management services running on the local host.

    You must stop all Performance Management services on physical and logical hosts. For details about how to stop services, see the chapter that describes starting and stopping Performance Management in the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide.

  3. Insert the distribution media into the appropriate drive.

  4. Execute the mount command to mount the distribution media.

    For example, to mount the distribution media on /cdrom, specify and execute the following command:

    /usr/sbin/mount -F cdfs -r device-special-file-name /cdrom

    The specified command differs depending on the environment used.

  5. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:

    mount-directory/IPFHPUX/setup mount-directory

    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.

  6. Enter I in the initial window.

    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  7. Select the programs you wish to install, and enter I.

    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  8. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.

    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

(2) For Solaris (SPARC)

To install Performance Management programs using the distribution media:

  1. As the superuser, log on to the host on which programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  2. Stop any Performance Management services running on the local host.

    You must stop all Performance Management services on physical and logical hosts. For details about how to stop services, see the chapter that describes starting and stopping Performance Management in the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide.

  3. Insert the distribution media into the appropriate drive.

  4. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:#

    mount-directory/SOLARIS/setup mount-directory

    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.

    The specified command differs depending on the environment used.

  5. Enter I in the initial window.

    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  6. Select the programs you wish to install, and enter I.

    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  7. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.

    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

In an environment in which the auto mount function has been disabled, specify the /usr/sbin/mount command as below and mount the distribution media before starting Hitachi PP Installer:

/usr/sbin/mount -F cdfs -r device-special-file-name /cdrom/cdrom

The specified command differs depending on the environment used.

(3) For AIX

To install Performance Management programs using the distribution media:

  1. As the superuser, log on to the host on which programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  2. Stop any Performance Management services that are running on the local host.

    You must stop all Performance Management services on physical and logical hosts. For details about how to stop services, see the chapter that describes starting and stopping Performance Management in the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide.

  3. Insert the distribution media into the appropriate drive.

  4. Execute the mount command to mount the distribution media.

    For example, to mount the distribution media on /cdrom, specify and execute the following command:

    /usr/sbin/mount -r -v cdrfs /dev/cd0 /cdrom
  5. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:

    mount-directory/AIX/setup mount-directory

    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.

  6. Enter I in the initial window.

    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  7. Select the programs you wish to install, and enter I.

    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  8. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.

    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

(4) For Linux

To install Performance Management programs using the distribution media:

  1. Make sure that the directory in which programs are to be installed is a real directory.

  2. As the superuser, log on to the host on which programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  3. Stop any Performance Management services running on the local host.

    You must stop all Performance Management services on physical and logical hosts. For details about how to stop services, see the chapter that describes starting and stopping Performance Management in the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide.

  4. Insert the distribution media into the appropriate drive.

  5. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:#

    mount-directory/X64LIN/setup mount-directory

    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.

  6. Enter I in the initial window.

    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  7. Select the programs you wish to install, and enter I.

    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  8. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.

    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

In an environment in which the auto mount function has been disabled, specify the /bin/mount command as below and mount the distribution media before starting Hitachi PP Installer:

/bin/mount -r -o mode=0544 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrecorder

The above specified command name and the underlined parts, which indicate the device special file name and mount-point directory name, vary depending on the environment being used.
