7.5 List of messages output to syslog and the Windows event log

This section lists the message information that is output by PFM - Manager or PFM - Web Console to syslog or the Windows event log.

syslog refers to the syslog file. For the storage location of the syslog file, see the syslog daemon configuration file (the default is /etc/syslogd.conf).

The Windows event log is displayed in the application log of the Event Viewer window. The Event Viewer window can be displayed by opening the Windows Start menu and choosing Administrative Tools, and then Event Viewer.

In the case of an event that is output by PFM - Manager or PFM - Web Console, the identifier PFM is displayed for Source in the Event Viewer window. For details about the identifiers for PFM - Agent or PFM -RM, see the description about identifiers in the appendix of each PFM - Agent or PFM - RM manual.

Important

The information that is output to syslog and the Windows event log depends on the severity of the event. Therefore, even when a message is output to the common message log, there might be cases where the same message does not appear in syslog or the Windows event log. To monitor messages, we recommend monitoring the common message log.
