A.8 Limit to the actions that are associated with alarms

The maximum number of actions that can be set for one Action Handler service is 60,000.

The number of actions is the total number of abnormal, warning, and normal counts in commands and emails (SNMPs are excluded because they use a trap generator).

Examples of actions that can and cannot be set in one Action Handler service are shown below.

These examples assume that there are 20,000 alarms and check whether the specified actions can be set for one Action Handler service.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Examples of actions that can be set

Setting abnormal, warning, and normal counts for emails

In this example, the number of action types is three (abnormal, warning, and normal for emails), and the total number of actions is 20,000 × 3 = 60,000.

These actions can be set because the total number of actions does not exceed the maximum number of actions (60,000).

Setting an abnormal count for SNMPs, a warning count for commands, and an abnormal count for emails

In this example, the number of action types is two (warning for commands and abnormal for emails), and the total number of actions is 20,000 × 2 = 40,000 (SNMPs are excluded).

These actions can be set because the total number of actions does not exceed the maximum number of actions (60,000).

(2) Examples of actions that cannot be set

Setting a warning count for commands and abnormal, warning, and normal counts for emails

In this example, the total number of action types is four (warning for commands and abnormal, warning, and normal for emails), and the total number of actions is 20,000 × 4 = 80,000.

These actions cannot be set because the total number of actions exceeds the maximum number of actions (60,000).

Setting warning and normal counts for commands and abnormal, warning, and normal counts for emails

In this example, the number of action types is five (warning and normal for commands and abnormal, warning, and normal for emails), and the total number of actions is 20,000 × 5 = 100,000.

These actions cannot be set because the total number of actions exceeds the maximum number of actions (60,000).
