3.2.4 Summarizing the performance data

The data retention conditions and summary methods used for performance data depend on the type of record being stored. This subsection describes the storage conditions you can set and the summary methods used for each record type.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Summary record (PI record)

This database automatically summarizes the performance data at a certain time (on a per-minute, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis). The system summarizes the fields containing the value in terms of average and total values. The performance data is summarized for each record, each time it is collected. This database automatically summarizes the performance data at a certain time (on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis). The system summarizes the fields containing the value in terms of average and total values. Summarizing takes place each time the minute data is stored.

Figure 3‒17: Example of summarizing the PI record type

[Figure]

With PI-type records, data is categorized according to the length of time covered by each record. Data of the category Minute, Hour, Day, Week, or Month is deleted when the specified retention period is exceeded. Data of the category Year is not deleted.

Category

Description

Minute

A record stored on a per-minute basis. A maximum of 60 records per hour, 1,440 records per day, 10,080 records per week, 44,640 records per month, or 527,040 records per year are stored. These records are deleted when the specified retention period is exceeded.

Hour

A record stored on an hourly basis. A maximum of 24 records per day, 168 records per week, 744 records per month, or 8,784 records per year are stored. These records are deleted when the specified retention period is exceeded.

Day

A record stored on a daily basis. A maximum of 7 records per week, 31 records per month, or 366 records per year are stored. These records are deleted when the specified retention period is exceeded.

Week

A record stored on a weekly basis. A maximum of 5 records per month or 52 records per year are stored. These records are deleted when the specified retention period is exceeded.

Month

A record stored on a monthly basis. A maximum of 12 records per year are stored. These records are deleted when the specified retention period is exceeded.

Year

A record stored on a yearly basis. One record per year is stored. These records are retained indefinitely.

(2) Non-summary record (PD record and PL record)

Performance Management does not summarize the performance data in PD and PL-type records when storing them in the database. The data retention conditions for PD and PL-type records are set differently for each version of the Store database. With Store 1.0, you specify the number of records to store in the database. With Store 2.0, you specify a retention period, as a number of days, in the same manner as for PI-type records. In both versions, data that no longer meets the data retention conditions is deleted automatically. For details about the different versions of the Store database, see 3.2.5 Store database storage methods.
