JP1 Version 12 JP1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide

3.1.1 Overview of services

Performance Management monitors operations of the monitoring agents by executing processes that have various functions. A process performed by the functions that comprise the Performance Management program is called a service.

[Figure]

You can check properties and the status of services in the monitoring console by selecting the Services window of PFM - Web Console. You can also stop services.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Service types

The following table lists and describes the functions and names of the Performance Management services. Performance Management services have service IDs in addition to the service names described in the table. The system uses service IDs to execute commands and to display in the monitoring console. For details about service IDs, see B.1 Naming rules for service IDs and service keys.

Detail

Name Server

Service configuration information management

Manages the service configuration information such as registration and update of the Performance Management service information.

Master Manager

System integrated management

The main server is the core of PFM - Manager. Manages the definition information of reports and alarms, and transmits the definition information.

View Server

Monitoring console communication server

Manages the communication processing when connected to PFM - Web Console.

Correlator

Alarm event transmission control

Controls alarm event transmissions between services.

Master Store

Event data management

Records the event data from each instance of PFM - Agent and PFM - RM in the Store database and manages the data.

Trap Generator

SNMP trap issuance

Issues SNMP traps when alarm events occur due to the monitoring agent data exceeding a threshold value.

Action Handler

Action execution

Executes actions to inform the user of the system status such as errors, when alarm events occur due to the monitoring agent data exceeding a threshold value.

Status Server

Status management

Manages the status of the Performance Management services.

Agent Collector

Health check status collection

Collects the following operating statuses and monitors thresholds:

  • Operating status of PFM - Agent and PFM - RM services

  • Operating status of the hosts running the PFM - Agent or PFM - RM

  • Operating status of the monitored host of PFM - RM

Processes the data when real-time reports are displayed in the PFM - Web Console.

Agent Store

Health check status management

Records the following collected operating information into the Store database and manages this data.

  • Operating status of PFM - Agent and PFM - RM services

  • Operating status of the hosts running the PFM - Agent or PFM - RM

  • Operating status of the monitored host of PFM - RM

Processes the data when historical reports are displayed in the PFM - Web Console.

Action execution

Executes actions to inform the user of the system status such as errors, when alarm events occur due to the monitoring agent data exceeding a threshold value.

Status Server#

Status management

Manages the status of the Performance Management services.

#

The system places only one of the PFM - Base services on the host when there are multiple instances of PFM - Agents or PFM - RM on the same host.

Collects the performance data of monitoring agents and monitors thresholds. Processes the data when real-time reports are displayed in the PFM - Web Console.

Remote Monitor Store

Performance data management

Records the collected performance data into the Store database and manages this data. Processes the data when historical reports are displayed in the PFM - Web Console.

(2) Starting instances

Some PFM - Agent or PFM - RM products can monitor every instance# of a target program.

#

The term instance has two meanings in this manual. For details, see instance in Appendix L. Glossary.

For example, PFM - Agent for Oracle monitors each Oracle instance with an SID. In such cases, you need to construct an instance environment to run PFM - Agent services with multiple instances.

For details about the possibility of instance-based monitoring, and how to construct an instance environment, see the PFM - Agent or PFM - RM manual.
