JP1 Version 12 JP1/Integrated Management 2 - Manager GUI Reference

4.1 Overview of the Monitoring Tree window

The Monitoring Tree window appears when the user logs in to JP1/IM - Manager (Central Scope) from the Login window with Central Scope selected or when the user clicks [Figure] on the toolbar of the Login window.

Note that some windows, buttons, and other items might not be enabled or displayed, depending on the version of JP1/IM - Manager (Central Console). For details, see H. Connectivity with Previous Versions in the JP1/Integrated Management 2 - Manager Overview and System Design Guide.

The Monitoring Tree window provides a tree view for visually and centrally monitoring the system status. Nodes in the tree can be grouped on a monitored server basis or on a server basis. If a failure occurs, the system administrator can drill down through the tree to identify the cause of the failure or check the applications affected by the failure. The Monitoring Tree window can also be used to launch related programs.

If virtualization configuration information is imported, the Monitoring Tree window can be used to monitor a virtualized system.

The following figure shows an example of the Monitoring Tree window.

Figure 4‒1: Monitoring Tree window

[Figure]

The following describes the items displayed in the Monitoring Tree window.

Title bar

The following two kinds of information are displayed in the title bar of the Monitoring Tree window:

About JP1/IM - View

The data version of the monitoring tree in the Monitoring Tree window is displayed in the title bar.

Note that the version displayed in the title bar is the data version of the server's monitoring tree, and is not a product version.

Login information

Login information is displayed in the following format:

Login information: user-name@host-name (or IP-address)

Alarm indicator

Flashes if a failure occurs in the monitored application system.

Tree display area

Displays the elements that make up the application system that is monitored in a tree structure. The following table describes the items displayed in the tree display area.

Table 4‒2: Items displayed in the tree display area

Item

Description

Plus sign (+) icon

A plus sign (+) icon is displayed beside a group node (monitoring group) that has child nodes when the child nodes are not displayed.

When the plus sign (+) icon is clicked, the group node is expanded to show the child nodes, and the icon changes to a minus sign (-) icon.

Minus sign (-) icon

A minus sign (-) icon is displayed beside a group node (monitoring group) that has child nodes when the child nodes are displayed.

When the minus sign (-) icon is clicked, the group node is collapsed to hide the child nodes, and the icon changes to a plus sign (+) icon.

Monitoring group

A tree node that has or can have child nodes. When a monitoring group has child nodes, a plus sign (+) or minus sign (-) icon is displayed beside the monitoring group.

When a monitoring group is selected in the tree display area, the child nodes are displayed in the details display area. If the monitoring group has no child nodes, nothing is displayed in the details display area.

When a collapsed monitoring group is double-clicked, the monitoring group is expanded to show the child nodes.

When an expanded monitoring group is double-clicked, the monitoring group is collapsed to hide the child nodes.

Monitoring object

A bottom-level tree element that has no child nodes. A plus sign (+) or minus sign (-) icon is not displayed beside this element.

When a monitoring object is selected in the tree display area, the detailed information of the monitoring object is displayed in the details display area.

When a monitoring object is double-clicked, the Properties window opens, and displays the attributes of the monitoring object.

Virtual root node

When the logged-in user's monitoring range in the tree is set and enabled, the nodes that the user can monitor are displayed in a tree structure under a top-level node called a virtual root node, which is indicated by [Figure] (or [Figure]).

When the virtual root node is selected in the tree display area, the child nodes of the virtual root node are displayed in the details display area. If the virtual root node has no child nodes, nothing is displayed in the details display area.

Details display area

Displays the child nodes of a monitoring group or virtual root node selected in the tree display area, or displays the details of a monitoring object selected in the tree display area. The displayed details include node name, node type, application status, whether monitoring is enabled, and time status last updated. The details display area is displayed in map mode when [Figure] is clicked and in list mode when [Figure] is clicked.

When a monitoring group is double-clicked in the details display area, the child nodes are displayed. At the same time, the corresponding monitoring group in the details display area is expanded.

When a monitoring object is double-clicked in the details display area, the Properties window opens, and displays the attributes of the monitoring object.

The nodes displayed in list mode can be sorted by status (Emergency, Alert, Critical, Error, Warning, Normal, Debug, and Initial, in this order). The nodes are sorted by status when the user chooses View from the menu bar, Sort Status, and then Sorted.

The following table describes the items displayed in the details display area.
