JP1 Version 12 JP1/Integrated Management 2 - Manager Overview and System Design Guide

3.7.1 Proactive monitoring

Proactive monitoring provided by the Intelligent Integrated Management Base checks for signs of operational faults, such as a sudden increase in the load on JP1/AJS. Furthermore, correlations between related performance (trend) information items are visualized for ease of understanding, thereby helping administrators quickly isolate the factors that are causing failures or producing warning signs.

After being informed of an abnormal event detected by JP1/AJS by receiving a notification, the administrator can view details about the applicable JP1 events in the event list. The administrator can then view trend information to confirm the scheduler service activity information to isolate the cause of the failure.

The following figure provides an overview of proactive monitoring.

To use the trend information display function, make sure that each JP1/AJS3 manager host of the trend information acquisition destination meets the following prerequisite conditions.

Prerequisite conditions:

On the each JP1/AJS3 manager host of the trend information acquisition destination, to change the system time by using NTP (Network Time Protocol), etc., make sure the following conditions are met.

  • Operate in slew mode, etc., and make adjustments in units of milliseconds so that the same time does not occur.

  • Configure settings to output logs when the system time is adjusted, so that time adjustments can be checked after they are made.

When linked with JP1/AJS, all performance data collected by JP1/AJS and incorporated into the performance report is displayed as trend information. This allows you to display trend information on the selected management target to identify the scope of impact of executing the job on JP1/AJS and to find out the cause of the failure. The JP1/AJS IM management nodes that can display trend information are the scheduler services under the AJS - Manager host > Management Applications > JP1/AJS3 - Manager Scheduler Services.

When linked with JP1/PFM, performance data collected by JP1/PFM is displayed as trend information. Based on the relationship information managed by JP1/IM, you can view infrastructure information related to the selected node, including CPU usage and available memory space. You can also add user-defined data to be displayed. For details about the JP1/PFM IM management nodes for which trend information can be displayed, see version 12-10 or later of the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide.

The trend information display period is automatically set when you select a JP1 event. You can also set a time period of your choice or display trend information for the last 1 hour.

To sum up, proactive monitoring allows you to quickly identify the possible impact of the detected problem on system operations, which in turn allows you to deal with the problem before it can lead to a serious operational fault.
