A.4 Standard error output and standard output

The execution status and results of commands are sent to standard error output or standard output.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Output destination

The output destination varies for each message to be sent. For messages, see 1.3 Messages.

A message to be sent to standard error output or standard output is formatted as follows:

message-ID message-text

The following table describes each output item.

The character encoding applied to the data sent to the standard error output or standard output is the same encoding that is set in the OS.
