6.3.3 Defining a schedule rule that starts a jobnet at regular intervals

You can use repetition settings to define schedule rules that start a jobnet at regular intervals. When you use repetition settings, the jobnet with the original schedule rule is scheduled at regular intervals from the start time of the schedule rule until the last start time specified in the repetition settings.

To apply repetition settings:

  1. In the JP1/AJS3 - View window, in Function Menu, click Schedule Definition.

    Schedule Definition is now selected.

  2. In the list area, click the root jobnet of the jobnet for which you are defining a schedule.

The root jobnet you clicked is now selected.

  3. Use either of the following methods to display the Schedule Settings dialog box:

If you want to define a schedule for a root jobnet:

From the Edit menu, choose Schedule.

If you want to define a schedule for a nested jobnet:

From the Edit menu, choose Edit, or double-click the root jobnet. When the Jobnet Editor window appears, click the jobnet in the tree area, map area, or list area, and from the Edit menu, choose Schedule.

  4. Deselect Depends on upper-level jobnet.

  5. To define a schedule rule by modifying or copying an existing rule, in the Schedule rules area, click the schedule rule that you want to modify or copy.

The schedule rule you clicked is now selected.

Skip this step if you intend to define a new schedule rule.

  6. Click the Add, Change, or Copy button.

The Schedule Rule dialog box appears.

  7. Define the details of the schedule rule.

Define the schedule rule that provides the basis for the repeating schedule.

  8. Click the Repeat button.

The Schedule Rule Repetition Settings dialog box appears.

  9. Define the repetition settings in detail.

    Supplementary note

If you specify an absolute time for the Start time of the schedule rule you define in step 7, the Last start time in the Schedule Rule Repetition Settings dialog box is assumed to be an absolute time. If you specify a relative time for the start time, the Last start time is also assumed to be a relative time.

  10. Click the OK button.

The Schedule Rule Repetition Settings dialog box closes.

  11. In the Schedule Rule dialog box, click the OK button.

A message dialog box appears to confirm addition of the schedule rule.

  12. Click the Yes button.

The Schedule Rule dialog box closes, and the schedule rule appears in the Schedule rules area of the Schedule Settings dialog box.

  13. In the Schedule Settings dialog box, click the OK button.

The Schedule Settings dialog box closes.

Example of defining schedule rules with repetition settings

Define the schedule rule as follows:

Define a schedule rule that schedules a jobnet every 60 minutes from 10:00 until 13:00.

To define a set of schedule rules, you can apply a repetition setting to a new schedule rule that you created or copied, or edit an existing schedule rule to serve as the basis for the repeated schedule. The number of schedule rules that result from the process differs for each method.

Using a new schedule rule as the basis for the repeated schedule by adding a new rule or copying an existing rule:
  1. In the Schedule Settings dialog box, click the Add or Copy button to display the Schedule Rule dialog box.

  2. Specify 10:00 in the Start time field.

  3. In the Schedule Rule Repetition Settings dialog box, specify 60 minutes in the Start interval field, and 13:00 in the Last start time field.

Including the schedule rule that serves as the basis for the repeated schedule, this process results in four schedule rules starting at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, and 13:00.

Using an existing schedule rule as the basis for the repeated schedule:
  1. In the Schedule Settings dialog box, click the Change button to display the Schedule Rule dialog box.

  2. Specify 10:00 in the Start time field.

  3. In the Schedule Rule Repetition Settings dialog box, specify 60 minutes in the Start interval field, and 13:00 in the Last start time field.

This process results in three schedule rules, starting at 11:00, 12:00, and 13:00.

Cautionary notes
  • You can use repetition settings in JP1/AJS3 - View version 09-50 and later.

  • If the repetition setting you specify results in more than 144 schedule rules, only the first 144 are defined.

  • A schedule rule generated by a repetition setting inherits some of its settings from the schedule rule defined in the Schedule Rule dialog box, while others are set automatically.

The following table lists the settings that are set automatically.

Table 6‒1: Properties set automatically for schedule rules defined by repetition settings

#1

When you use a repetition setting to define schedule rules for a nested jobnet, Rule number to link is automatically assigned the same value as Rule number. Amend the value of Rule number to link to match the number of the upper-level jobnet that relates to the particular schedule rule of the nested jobnet.

#2

When the time reaches 47:59, a time of 47:59 is assigned to all schedule rules beyond that time.

Supplementary notes
  • You can cancel the process of setting a repetition setting by selecting No for Repetition settings in the Schedule Rule Repetition Settings dialog box, and then clicking the OK button.

  • Schedule rules generated by a repetition setting start at the time specified by Last start time or earlier. For example, if you use a new schedule rule with a start time of 10:00 as the original schedule rule for the repeating schedule, and specify 60 minutes for Start interval and 13:15 for Last start time in the Schedule Rule Repetition Settings dialog box, new schedule rules are defined with the start times 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, and 13:00.
