5.3.1 Copying units

To copy one or more units that are defined in a jobnet:

Organization of this subsection

(1) Copying units only

To copy only the units defined in a jobnet:

  1. In the map area of the Jobnet Editor window, display the jobnet that contains the unit or units to be copied.

  2. Use one of the following methods to select the icon or icons of the target units:

If you want to select one unit:

    Click the icon.

If you want to select multiple units:

Either use the mouse to enclose a range of icons, or hold down the Ctrl key and click the desired units.

If you want to select all units:

Either click Edit and then Select All, or hold down the Ctrl key and press the A key.

To release the selected status, click the icon if only one icon is selected. To deselect multiple icons, hold down the Ctrl key and click the selected icons.

  3. Choose Edit and then Copy.

  4. In the map area of the Jobnet Editor window, display the jobnet where the target unit or units are to be copied to.

  5. Select Exclusive edit.

  6. Choose Edit and then Paste (Units only).

The icon or icons are copied. The place where the icon or icons are copied depends on the number of icons selected in step 2.

    When one icon was selected

The icon is copied to the place in the map area where the mouse was clicked last.

    When multiple icons were selected

The icons are pasted in the same arrangement as the source jobnet with respect to the last point the mouse was clicked in the map area. To copy the icons into a place you desire, click on the place, then choose Edit and then Paste (Units only).

When icons are copied, the unit names are changed so that there are no multiple instances of the same unit name.

Cautionary note

The following units cannot be copied under a root jobnet for which release entry was performed (a release-target jobnet).

  • Remote jobnet

  • .CONDITION (start condition)

  • Jobnet connector

Supplementary notes
  • When you copy a unit, the attributes of that unit are also copied. However, the unit does not retain settings related to ownership and JP1 resource groups. The owner and JP1 resource group settings of a unit created by copying depends on whether the upper-level unit-attribute inheritance function is enabled.

If the upper-level unit-attribute inheritance function is disabled:

Owner: The JP1 user who copied the unit.

JP1 resource groups: Retains the JP1 resource groups of the original unit.

If the upper-level unit-attribute inheritance function is enabled:

Owner: Inherits the owner of the upper-level unit at the copy destination.

JP1 resource groups: Inherits the JP1 resource groups of the upper-level unit at the copy destination.

For details on the upper-level unit-attribute inheritance function, see 6.4.1(4) Access permission for creating or copying a unit, or making a release entry in the JP1/Automatic Job Management System 3 System Design (Work Tasks) Guide.

  • When you copy a unit, relations are canceled.

  • You can also copy the units that are displayed in the tree area and list area of the JP1/AJS3 - View window (Main window), and the tree area and list area of the Jobnet Editor window.

(2) Copying units and relations

To copy multiple units including the relations between the units:

  1. In the map area of the Jobnet Editor window, display the jobnet that contains the units that you want to copy.

  2. Use one of the following methods to select the icons for the target units:

If you want to select multiple units:

Either use the mouse to enclose a range of icons, or hold down the Ctrl key and click the desired units.

If you want to select all units:

Either click Edit and then Select All, or hold down the Ctrl key and press the A key.

To clear the selection of an icon, hold down the Ctrl key and click the icon.

  3. Choose Edit and then Copy.

  4. In the map area of the Jobnet Editor window, display the jobnet where the target unit or units are to be copied to.

  5. Select Exclusive edit.

  6. Choose Edit and then Paste (Units and relations).

The icons are pasted in the same arrangement as the source jobnet with respect to the last point the mouse was clicked in the map area. The icons are pasted with the same layout as that of the source map area, when possible. If it is impossible to paste the icons with the same layout, the starting position is changed to maintain the same layout.

Note that copied units are renamed to avoid duplication of unit names.

Cautionary notes
  • When you copy a nested jobnet, all the subordinate units are also copied. Note, however, that the definitions of the subordinate units to be copied do not have the time that the Copy operation was performed but the time that the Paste (Units and relations) operation was performed. Therefore, if you select multiple units in the map area that include a nested jobnet and copy them under a nested jobnet, the status of the copied units might not be what you expect.

  • The following units cannot be copied under a root jobnet for which release entry was performed (a release-target jobnet).

    - Remote jobnet

    - .CONDITION (start condition)

    - Jobnet connector

Supplementary note

When you copy a unit, the attributes of that unit are also copied.
