5.2.1 Defining job groups

A job group is a folder to classify multiple tasks (jobnets) and to control them. A job group cannot be defined in a jobnet or a job.

The following describes the procedure for defining each type of job group.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Defining a job group

The following procedure define a job group in the scheduler service.

To define a job group:

  1. In the JP1/AJS3 - View window, in Function Menu, choose Job Group Definition.

Job Group Definition is now selected.

  2. In the tree area, click the scheduler service (the root job group that manages the job group to be defined such as AJSROOT1).

The clicked scheduler service is displayed in the selected mode.

  3. Choose Edit, New, and then Job Group.

The Define Details - [Job Group] dialog box is displayed.

The Define Details - [Job Group] dialog box closes.

A folder representing the job group is displayed in the tree area.

(2) Defining a manager job group in a job group

A manager job group is a unit which links with job groups or planning groups defined in JP1/AJS3 - Manager on different hosts. This unit is defined if frequently used job groups on different hosts are viewed by single JP1/AJS3 - View.

The following procedure shows how to define a manager job group in the job group.

To define a manager job group in a job group:

  1. In the JP1/AJS3 - View window, in Function Menu, click Job Group Definition.

Job Group Definition is now selected.

  2. In the tree area, click the job group that will manage the manager job group to be defined.

The clicked job group is displayed in the selected mode.

  3. Choose the Edit, New, and then Manager Job Group.

The Define Details - [Manager Job Group] dialog box is displayed.

(3) Defining a planning group in a job group

A planning group is a job group to automatically switch multiple jobnets such as the root jobnets and the root remote job net. Under the planning group, multiple jobnets can be defined so that execution registration with period can be applied. If changes in the definition of the root jobnet are expected in future, define multiple versions of root jobnets with different definition and switch them as planned so that the system can run seamlessly.

The following procedure show how to define a planning group in the job group. A planning group is also created by ajsdefine command. For details of the command, see the description of ajsdefine in 3. Commands Used for Normal Operations in the manual JP1/Automatic Job Management System 3 Command Reference.

To define a planning group in a job group:

  1. In the JP1/AJS3 - View window, in Function Menu, click Job Group Definition.

Job Group Definition is now selected.

  2. In the tree area, click the job group that will manages the planning group to be defined.

The clicked job group is displayed in the selected mode.

  3. Choose Edit, New, and then Planning Group.

The Define Details - [Planning Group] dialog box is displayed.

  4. Define items in the planning group such as attributes.

  5. Click the OK button.

The Define Details - [Planning Group] dialog box is closed.

The planning group is defined in the job group selected in step 2 and the planning group appears in the list area.

Supplementary note

The system runs a check if you specify connection of the planning group to a jobnet connector, specify Same service in Connection range on the Definition page of the Define Details - [Planning Group] dialog box, and then you click the OK button in step 5. This check is to determine whether the planning group can be really connected to the jobnet connector, and includes such checks as whether the jobnet connector actually exists and whether the jobnet connector is already connected to a jobnet.

If Other service is specified for Connection range, however, the system does not check whether the planning group can be really connected to the jobnet connector. In this case, manually check whether the planning group can be connected to the jobnet connector.

If a confirmation message or an error message appears, follow the displayed instructions.
