13.1.5 Using an alias for the execution host name of an event job in a manager/agent configuration

When you use the JP1/AJS3 system in a manager/agent configuration, you might need to specify an alias host name as the execution host for an event job. This case study describes how to specify an agent host by an alias host name.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Goals

In a manager/agent configuration like the following, you want to specify an alias host name as the execution host (agent host) of an event job.

For details about manager/agent configurations, see 2.2.2 Examples of manager/agent system configurations in the JP1/Automatic Job Management System 3 System Design (Configuration) Guide.

(2) Solution

Communication between the manager host and agent host is based on the IP addresses resolved from their host names. For this reason, the environment must be configured so that the manager host can correctly resolve the host name of the agent host and vice versa.

If you define an alias hostB for the agent host with the host name hostA, configure the hosts file, DNS, jp1hosts, or jp1hosts2 file so that the alias of the agent host and its real name resolve to the same IP address.

The following figure shows an example of configuring the hosts file. Configure the file as follows.

Use this procedure when setting up the manager host and agent host.
