B.3 Conventions: Fonts and symbols

The following table explains the text formatting conventions used in this manual:

Text formatting

Convention

Italic

Italic characters indicate a placeholder for actual text to be provided by the user or system.

For example: YYYYMMDD indicates that a date is specified.

Bold

Bold characters indicate text in a window, other than the window title. Such text includes menus, menu options, buttons, radio box options, or explanatory labels.

Bold > Bold

Successive bold characters connected by the character > indicate successive selection of menus.

For example: Select File > New.

The above example instructs you to select New in the File menu.
