G.1 Version compatibility of the system configuration
This section describes the system configuration of Performance Management to be combined when versions are mixed in the system configuration of Performance Management.
- Organization of this subsection
(1) When the PFM - Manager version is 11-00 or later
If the PFM - Manager or PFM - Web Console version is 11-00 or later, the other must also be version 11-00 or later. Note that PFM - Manager 11-00 cannot connect to all versions of PFM - View.
The following table shows the versions of PFM - Base to which PFM - Manager of version 11-00 or later can connect, along with the corresponding PFM - Agent and PFM - RM versions:
No. |
PFM - Base |
PFM - Agent or PFM - RM |
---|---|---|
1 |
11-00 or later |
10-00 or later |
2 |
10-00 or later, version earlier than 11-00 |
09-00 or later, version earlier than 11-00 |
3 |
09-00 or later, version earlier than 10-00 |
09-00 or later, version earlier than 10-00 |
If you install PFM - Manager on the same host as PFM - Agent or PFM - RM, the PFM - Agent or PFM - RM version must be 10-00 or later. If the version is earlier than 11-00, there are some facility restrictions. For details about the facility restrictions, see the explanation of each facility.
Note that the versions necessary for using the facilities listed below vary. For details about the prerequisites for each facility, see the explanation of each facility.
-
Checking the alarm information application status
PFM - Base of 11-00 or later is required for the monitoring agent.
If PFM - Base is earlier than 11-00, responses from services are limited. In this case, the alarm application status becomes Uncertain.
Furthermore, if PFM - Base is earlier than 10-00-10, alarm information cannot be applied to the action handler of the applicable host in the Alarm Application Status window, or by using the jpctool config alarmsync command.
-

If PFM - Manager and PFM - Agent or PFM - RM are installed on the same host, the version of PFM - Agent or PFM - RM must be 08-00 or later.
If you want to use the following functions, the required versions of Performance Management programs differ. For details about precise prerequisites for each function, see the description about the applicable function.
-

(3) When PFM - Manager is 10-10 or later
In a system configuration that uses PFM - Manager 10-10 or later, all versions of PFM - Agent and PFM - RM can be monitored. Note also that PFM - Web Console 09-00 or later is required as the monitoring console server. Not all versions of PFM - View can be connected.
If PFM - Manager and PFM - Agent or PFM - RM are installed on the same host, the version of PFM - Agent or PFM - RM must be 08-00 or later.
If you want to use the following functions, the required versions of Performance Management programs differ.
-
When using two PFM - Manager hosts to monitor the same agents
PFM - Web Console 10-10 or later is required as the monitoring console server. Monitoring agent hosts require PFM - Base 10-10 or later. In addition, the version of PFM - Agent or PFM - RM must be 10-00 or later.
-
When using one alarm definition to monitor the instances of multiple records
PFM - Web Console 10-10 or later is required as the monitoring console server. Monitoring agent hosts require PFM - Base 10-10 or later. In addition, the version of PFM - Agent or PFM - RM must be 10-00 or later.
-
When making the restart of agents unnecessary after restoring a PFM - Manager host using backup data
Monitoring agent hosts require PFM - Base 10-00-10 or later.
(4) When PFM - Manager is 10-00 or later
In a system configurations that uses PFM - Manager 10-00 or later, all versions of PFM - Agent and PFM - RM can be monitored.
If you want to use the following functions, the version of PFM - Agent or PFM - RM installed on the same host as PFM - Manager must be 10-00 or later:
-
Linking with JP1/ITSLM
-
IPv6 communication
(5) When the PFM - Manager version is 10-00
In a system configuration that uses PFM - Manager 10-00, all versions of PFM - Agent and PFM - RM can be monitored. Note also that PFM - Web Console 08-00 or later# is required as the monitoring console. Not all versions of PFM - View can be connected.
- #
-
When operating PFM - RM, see G.4 Version compatibility of system configurations when operating PFM - RM.
PFM - Manager 10-00 might issue agent events containing the following message texts:
-
State change(Unconfirmed)
-
State information
-
State information(Unconfirmed)
If the access control function based on business groups is enabled in PFM - Manager, the PFM - Web Console version must be 10-00 or later. PFM - Manager cannot be connected from PFM - Web Console version 09-00 or earlier.
(6) When the PFM - Manager version is 09-00
In a system configuration that uses PFM - Manager 09-00, all versions of PFM - Agent and PFM - RM can be monitored. Note also that PFM - Web Console 08-00 or later# is required as a monitoring console. Not all versions of PFM - View can be connected.
- #
-
When operating PFM - RM, see G.4 Version compatibility of system configurations when operating PFM - RM.
In regards to agent events, events beginning with the message text KAV indicate the events issued when PFM - Base 09-00 or later is installed on an event-issuing agent host.
If you want to use the following functions, PFM - Web Console 09-00 or later must be installed on the same host as PFM - Manager or PFM - Base.
-
Use the jpcspm command to start or stop the PFM - Web Console services
-
Use the jpctool service list command to display the operating status of PFM - Web Console services
(7) When PFM - Manager is 08-00 or later and 08-11 or earlier
For a system configuration using PFM - Manager 08-00 or later and 08-11 or earlier, you can monitor all versions of PFM - Agent 11-00 or earlier. Additionally, 08-00 or later of PFM - Web Console or 07-00 of PFM - View is required as a monitoring console. PFM - View 06-70 or earlier cannot be connected. The version available depends on the function you want to use.
-
PFM - View does not support the health check function. This function is supported by PFM - Web Console 08-11 or later. For details about the available versions, see the chapter in the JP1/Performance Management User's Guide that describes how to detect problems in Performance Management.
-
PFM - View does not support the distribution of agent-specific properties as a batch. This function is supported by PFM - Web Console 08-11 or later.
-
The functionality for binding multiple alarm tables is supported by PFM - Manager 09-00 or later and PFM - Web Console 09-00 or later. This function is also supported by PFM - Agent 08-00 or later, and PFM - Base 09-00 or later on the same host as PFM - Agent.
When PFM - Agent is used in a Linux environment where UTF-8 encoding is specified in the LANG environment variable, you can only use double-byte characters in the following items if the connection-target PFM - Manager for the PFM - Agent and the PFM - Base on the same host as the PFM - Agent are version 08-11 or later.
-
Settings in alarm tables and alarm definitions
-
Filter condition expressions included in report definitions
-
Conditional expressions for field-level drilldown reports included in report definitions
-
LOGIF conditional expressions for specifying the collection conditions for performance data
-
Conditional expressions used by the ODBC driver to extract performance data
With version 08-00 of PFM - Manager or PFM - Base, use only 7-bit ASCII characters. Other characters might not display correctly in PFM - Web Console or PFM - View, or might cause the programs to not work correctly.
The following figure illustrates the system configuration that can be connected when PFM - Manager is 08-00 or later and 08-11 or earlier.
