11.2.1 Registering a managed computer in an ID group

For a managed computer, you must register its local system in an appropriate group (called an ID group) so that the managed computer can receive jobs from the managing system. To register the managed computer in an ID group, use the Register in ID Group dialog box, which appears when you open the Start menu, and then choose the Register in ID Group icon.

Figure 11‒1: Register in ID Group dialog box

[Figure]

Perform registration of a managed computer in an ID group while the managed computer is connected to the relay managing the ID. The relay managing the ID is a higher system that manages IDs (that is, a higher server specified in agent settings). The Register in ID Group dialog box displays the name of the higher server.

Even while a managed computer is not connected to the relay managing the ID, you can set registration of the managed computer in an ID group (or unregisteration of it from the ID group) to waiting status. In such cases, the relay managing the ID will be notified of actual registering or unregistering when you log on to the relay, or choose the Register in ID Group icon after connection to the relay is enabled. Therefore, you can register a managed computer in an ID group even during pre-installation or system configuration. While a managed computer is in the process of remote installation, it is connected to the relay managing the ID (by another function). In such cases, registering in and unregistering from an ID group are both handled in the same way as when the managed computer is not connected to the relay.

The following describes how to operate the Register in ID Group dialog box, according to the status of connection between a managed computer and relay managing the ID.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Registering a managed computer in an ID group when the managed computer is connected to the relay managing the ID

You can perform the following operations when a managed computer is connected to the relay managing the ID (when, in the Register in ID Group dialog box, Server connection is connected).

(a) Registering a managed computer in an ID group

The following describes how to register a managed computer in an ID group:

  1. In List of available ID groups, select an ID group.

The selected ID group is highlighted. You can select only one ID group.

  2. Click the > button.

If the selected ID group does not require a password, the selected ID group moves to List of selected ID groups, and registration of the managed computer in the ID group ends.

If the selected ID group requires a password, the Confirm Registration dialog box appears.

  3. Enter a password, and then click the OK button.

Enter the password (a maximum of 14 single-byte alphanumeric characters) informed to you by the system administrator. If the entered password is valid, the selected ID group moves to List of selected ID groups, and registration of the managed computer in the ID group ends.

(b) Unregistering a managed computer from an ID group

The following describes how to unregister a managed computer from an ID group.

  1. In List of selected ID groups, select the relevant ID group.

The selected ID group is highlighted. You can select multiple ID groups.

  2. Click the < button.

A confirmation dialog box appears to ask you whether you are sure you want to unregister the managed computer from the ID group.

Click the OK button. The selected ID group moves to List of available ID groups, and unregistration of the managed computer from the ID group ends.

(2) Registering a managed computer in an ID group when the managed computer is not connected to the relay managing the ID

You can perform the following operations when the managed computer is not connected to the relay managing the ID (when, in the Register in ID Group dialog box, Server connection is disconnected).

(a) Setting the status of waiting for registration in an ID group

The following describes how to enable a managed computer to be registered in an ID group managed by the relay (server) that manages the ID group when the managed computer is connected to the relay.

  1. In the Enter an ID group field, enter the ID group in which to register the managed computer.

The ID group name to be entered must not exceed 32 single-byte characters (or 16 double-byte characters). You cannot use the following symbols or space characters:

    \ / * : " ' | ! . < > ? %

Note also that an ID group name beginning with a network ID cannot be used.

  2. Click the > button.

The Confirm Registration dialog box appears to prompt you to enter a password. If the entered ID group does not require a password for registration in the ID group, enter nothing in the Password field, and then click the OK button. Preparation for registering in the ID group ends.

  3. Enter a password.

If the entered ID group requires a password for registration, enter the password informed to you by the system administrator, and then click the OK button. Preparation for registering in the ID group ends. The ID group with which preparation for registering has ended is displayed in List of selected ID groups with the comment Now registering in ID groups attached against a yellow background.

Registration in an ID group in the waiting status is reported to the relay managing the ID later. Specifically, registration is reported when you perform logon to the relay managing the ID, or when you choose the Register in ID Group icon after setting up the environment for communication with the relay is set up.

If an error is returned when registration in an ID group in the waiting status is reported, you can revise the ID group information, and then retry registering the managed computer in the ID group.

(b) Setting the status of waiting for unregistration from an ID group

The following describes how to enable a managed computer to be unregistered from an ID group managed by the relay that manages the ID group, when the managed computer is connected to the relay:

  1. In List of selected ID groups, select the relevant ID group.

The selected ID group is highlighted. You can select multiple ID groups.

  2. Click the < button.

A confirmation dialog box appears asking whether you are sure you want to unregister the managed computer from the ID group.

  3. Click the OK button.

The selected ID group moves to List of available ID groups, and preparation for unregistering the managed computer from the ID group ends.

The ID group with which preparation for unregistering has ended is displayed in List of available ID groups with the comment Canceling attached against a yellow background.

(c) Canceling the status of waiting for registration in an ID group

The following describes how to cancel the status of waiting for registration in an ID group:

  1. In List of selected ID groups, select the relevant ID group.

The selected ID group is highlighted. You can select multiple ID groups.

  2. Click the < button.

A confirmation dialog box appears asking whether you are sure you want to cancel the status of waiting for registration in the selected ID group.

  3. Click the OK button.

The selected ID group is deleted from List of selected ID groups, and canceling the status of waiting for registration from the ID group ends.

(d) Canceling the status of waiting for unregistering from an ID group

The following describes how to cancel the status of waiting for unregistration from an ID group:

  1. In List of available ID groups, select the relevant ID group.

The selected ID group is highlighted. You can select multiple ID groups.

  2. Click the > button.

The selected ID group is deleted from List of available ID groups, and canceling the status of waiting for unregistration from the ID group ends.

(e) Revising ID group information

The following describes how to revise the ID group information specified for setting the status of waiting for registration of a managed computer:

Note that the Register in ID Group dialog box reporting an error might appear during registration processing. If this dialog box appears, click the Retry button to revise the ID group information (as described below), or click the OK button to cancel registration in the ID group that resulted in the error, and end processing.

  1. In List of selected ID groups, select the relevant ID group.

Select the ID group of which to revise information from List of selected ID groups. You can revise the information of only an ID group that is in the status of waiting for registration (displayed against a yellow background), or an ID group that has caused a registration error (displayed against a red background).

  2. Click the Revise button.

The Revise ID Group dialog box appears.

  3. Revise the ID group name and/or password, and then click the OK button.

The ID group information is revised, and is displayed with the comment Now registering in ID groups attached (displayed against a yellow background).
