9.2.4 Setting up the Destination page

The Destination page allows you to specify a host or group that the job is targeting.

Select a Destination type, and then click the Add button to add a destination. The ID group, host group, and managed computers that are specified as target destinations appear in the Destination field. A destination that has already been added can be removed, and the route setting for the destination can be modified.

The following section describes how to specify a destination type, how to add a destination, and how to change a route.

(1) Destination type

To specify a destination on the Destination page, select a Destination type first. There are two destination types:

Host group
ID group

(a) Host group

Select this destination type when you want to specify a group of hosts or a specific host (including a relay system and agent) as a job destination. If you change the Destination type of a job that has an ID group to Host group, the relay system managing the ID group or managed computers registered in the ID group become the destination of the registered job.

When you specify a host group or a host, jobs are executed on a different host depending on the job type. The following table shows the relationship between the specified destination and the job type.

Legend:

Y: The job is executed on the specified host.

N: The job is not executed on the specified host.

R: The job is executed on the relay system that belongs to the specified host group.

The job is also executed on a relay system that belongs to a host group under the specified host group.

A: The job is executed on all the hosts that belong to the specified host group.

The job is also executed on all the hosts that belong to a host group under the specified host group.

(b) ID group

Choose whether you want to specify an ID group as a job destination. If you specify an ID group, the job is executed on the computers that belong to that ID group.

The ID group destination type is useful when you want to execute a job on a newly added computer. If an ID group job has been saved in a system connected to a computer, when the computer is registered in the ID group, the job is automatically executed on the computer. Note that if system-configuration information and ID group information are linked, when the route was changed because the destination settings on the computer registered in the ID group were changed, the ID group jobs destined for the computers on the old route are deleted, and ID group job destined for the computer are registered and executed with the new route.

The ID group destination type can be selected for the following job types:

Install package
Send package, allow client to choose

If you specify the relay managing the ID including a route, you cannot specify multiple IDs for a destination. Split the job for each ID, and specify the job. For example, if the destination is ID01 and ID02, create two jobs with the following destination:

host-ID!%ID01

host-ID!%ID02

(2) Adding a destination

The following describes how to add a destination on the Destination page.

Select a destination type on the Destination page, and click the Add button.

The Add Destination dialog box appears. You can adjust the size of the Add Destination dialog box to a comfortable size. If you change the size, the dialog box will be displayed with that size from the next time you open it.

From the Destination/Agent list, that appears when you select From and Host group or ID group/Relay system, select a host that you want to add to the Destination list.

From

Select which window you want to use to acquire the information for a new destination: System Configuration window or Destination window.

Host group or ID group/Relay system

If you select System Configuration in From, relay systems are displayed in a hierarchical structure. If you select Destination in From, host groups or ID groups are displayed.

Destination/Agent

If you selected System Configuration or Destination in From, the list of hosts that are included in the relay system or host group you selected in Host group or ID group/Relay system are displayed. Clicking Network in Host group or ID group/Relay system displays the computers placed directly under the network.

Enter route

If you want to add a host that is not included in the System Configuration window, specify a route to the host. Specify host names using ! as a delimiter, for example, host-name1!host-name2.

Describe the host name as a host ID.

For details about how to specify a host name, see 5.1.2 Assigning host names in JP1/IT Desktop Management 2.

If you want to specify the route of a job whose destination is set to a relay system, specify the relay system name to both the route and the destination.

Example:

To enter an ID group, put % at the beginning of the ID group. The host group cannot be specified. Note that if you specify an ID group managed by a relay system, specify only a single ID group.

Example:

Select a host, host group, or an ID group you want to add as a destination in the left pane, and click the > button.

The selected item will be added to the Destination pane on the right. Clicking the >> button will add all hosts or computers shown in the Destination/Agent field to the Destination field.

If you want to remove a specified item from the Destination field, click the < button.
Click the OK button.

The Add Destination dialog box closes, and the specified destinations appear in the Destination field on the Destination page.

(3) Changing a route

Clicking the Change Route button on the Destination page allows you to change the execution route of a job. This allows operation by avoiding a relay system on which a problem has occurred, and executing the job via an alternate relay system.

Note the following when you change a route:

The route cannot be changed if the destination of a job is a host group or an ID group.
If you change a route of a Send package, allow client to choose job, the result of the job may remain in Waiting for execution status. In this case, redefine the relay system or the host connected from managed computers on which the Send package, allow client to choose job is to be executed on an upper level host indicated by the new route.
The Start the target computer if it is not running command on the Client Control page cannot be used.

To change a route:

Select a route you want to modify in the Destination page, and click the Change Route button.

The Change Transmission Route dialog box appears. The destinations and all relay systems selected in the Destination page are shown with the route defined in the System Configuration window.

Select a relay system route you want to modify, and click the Change, Move, or Add button.

Change button

The Select Relay System to be Used dialog box appears. The managed computers under the relay system specified in the Change Transmission Route dialog box are moved to the relay system specified in this dialog box.

Add button

The Select Relay System to be Added dialog box appears. The relay system and the managed computers under the relay system specified in this dialog box are moved to the relay system specified in the Change Transmission Route dialog box.

Move button

The Select Relay System to Which Client Will Move dialog box appears. The managed computers specified in the Change Transmission Route dialog box are moved to the relay system specified in this dialog box.

Reset button

The order of the relay system and the managed computers under the relay system listed in the Change Transmission Route dialog box is reset to the condition before the modification.

You can also move the managed computers or relay system in the transmission route tree with a mouse drag and drop operation. You can click the name of an icon, and directly edit the name.
Click the OK button.

The Change Transmission Route dialog box closes, and the modified route is shown on the Destination page.

(4) Important notes on specifying a destination

The following section contains important notes on specifying a destination.

(a) Limitation on the destination length

The status of a job whose destination name is 256 characters or more will not be displayed in the Job Status window. You must specify a destination of 255 characters or less.

(b) Changing the destination type

If you change the destination type of a job whose destination type is already set to a host group to an ID group, destinations other than the ID group will be deleted. On the other hand, if you change the destination type of a job whose destination type is already set to an ID group to a host group, a job destined for a relay system that manages the ID group or the managed computers registered in the ID group are registered.

(c) Handling a job for which a nonexistent destination is specified

Do not create a job by specifying a nonexistent destination. If you execute such jobs, it may slow down the operation of Remote Installation Manager or other adverse effects may occur.

If a specified destination includes a nonexistent destination, the job executes targeting only the existent destination. Note that the status of a job with a nonexistent destination after the job execution depends on the settings in the Settings for Address Resolution panel specified during JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager setup. If a When resolution of IP address fails item is set to The job ends in error, the status will be Error, and if it is set to The job starts., the status will be waiting for execution.

(d) Setting an operation key

If the key item is set to Host name in the Address Resolution panel specified during JP1/IT Desktop Management 2 - Manager setup, or in the Specify ID Key for Operations in the Relay system settings in the agent settings, select Use Network in Windows for How to resolve IP addresses.

If you select Use the system configuration information for IT Desktop Management 2 for How to resolve IP addresses, a job execution request cannot be sent to a destination if you specify the destination as below. However, when The job starts. is selected for When resolution of IP address fails, these kinds of jobs are executed by polling from the destination.
