7.6.10 Splitting packages before distribution (Split distribution)

Split distribution balances network load by splitting large packages before distribution. Split distribution also allows you to specify an interval between the transfers of split packages (Distribution interval), thereby further reducing network load. If you split packages before distribution, select the Split package and then distribute option on the Job Distribution Attributes page during job creation.

If there is a relay system on the route to the package transfer destination, the split size and distribution interval of packages change according to the following conditions:

The following figure illustrates an example of distributing split packages.

Figure 7‒59: Example of distributing split packages

[Figure]

If there is a relay system on the route to the package transfer destination, the relay system must be always running.

You can stop split distribution halfway through, and transfer all the unsent packages at one time to complete the distribution as normal distribution. This operation is called forced completion of split distribution. A job that has been forcibly completed transfers all unsplit packages from the system immediately under the system to the destination systems at the same time (by using normal distribution). However, forced completion of split distribution is effective for all the systems under the system (where forced completion is performed) only during split distribution. Note also that you cannot forcibly complete jobs that are currently suspended or being restarted.

To forcibly complete split distribution, select a split distribution job in the Job Status window of the Remote Installation Manager. Then select Execute, and then Forcibly Complete Split Distribution.

You might wish to forcibly complete split distribution only to the relay system under the system where forced completion is performed, and continue split distribution to the destination systems under the relay system. In this case, transfer the same package by executing the Transfer package to relay system job. Accordingly, split distribution to the relay system is forcibly completed (and changed to normal distribution), and split distribution to the destination systems under the relay system is continued.
