7.1.4 Notes on packaging
Note the following rules when packaging software:
-
You can create a maximum of 1,296 cabinets. You can register a maximum of 256 packages for each cabinet.
-
You can package a maximum of 65,531 files or directories at one time. However, if the files or directories to be packaged contain files with short file names, these short file names are also included in the count. For details, see the Note for the KDSF0123-E message in the message list in the manual Job Management Partner 1 Version 10 Job Management Partner 1/IT Desktop Management 2 Messages.
-
After a package is stored in a cabinet, you cannot rename that package or move it to another cabinet.
-
The maximum allowable package size is 2 gigabytes. You must package files so that the package size does not exceed 2 gigabytes.
-
You can only package files whose update date/time or access date/time is from 1970 to 2037.
-
If some of the files or directories to be packaged are being used by another application, packaging might fail.
-
You cannot package files in multiple directories at the same time.
-
When you package another company's software that consists of compressed files (or files in a different format), create a directory, copy the files to be packaged into the directory, and then package the files by specifying the directory.
-
If you package user data stored on multiple CD-ROMs, copy the data to a hard disk, and then package the data by specifying its directories or files.
-
If you package a software program (such as another company's software) that must be installed from CD-ROMs in a particular order, post-distribution installation processing fails if the CD-ROMs are inserted in the wrong order.
-
For another company's software that asks you to enter a CD key during installation, enter the CD key in the Serial number field on the AIT File page.
-
If cabinets of the same cabinet name have different cabinet IDs, it is difficult to manage each cabinet. To prevent this problem, specify each cabinet name and cabinet ID so that they have a one-to-one correspondence. Note also that there must be a one-to-one correspondence between each package name and package ID within the same cabinet.
-
When you perform packaging directly from Hitachi Integrated Installer, use the File window of the JP1/ITDM2 Packager window to specify the root directory on the drive where the CD-ROM is mounted. If you do this, a list of products that can be remotely installed is displayed when you select Packaging from the Run menu. From this list, you can select the product to be remotely installed before packaging. If you specify a directory other than the root directory of Hitachi Integrated Installer before packaging, remote installation fails.
-
Before packaging, decide on package naming rules to ensure that all cabinet IDs, package IDs, versions, and generation numbers are unique within the managing server and relay systems.
-
When transferring packages to a relay system
You cannot transfer a package of the same cabinet ID, package ID, version, and generation number as another package existing in the relay system (even if they are different software packages), because the package to transfer is regarded as already stored.
-
When performing a remote installation of packages on a managed computer
You cannot install a package of the same package ID, version, and generation number as another package existing in a managed computer (even if they are different software packages), because the package to install is regarded as already installed.
To transfer or install a package in either of the above situations, select the Replace existing package check box in the Change Installation Conditions dialog box.
