1.2.2 Types of remote collection jobs

The figure below shows the types of jobs that are involved in the remote collection process. Use the jobs that are appropriate for your network environment and the way you use the system.

Figure 1‒6: Types of remote collection jobs

[Figure]

When you create a Collect files from client job or a Collect files from client to relay system job, you can specify remote collection options for the job. These include the collection time on the managed computer, whether to compress the files, and whether to start an external program.

For details about how to set these options, see 8.1.1 Executing remote collection.

Each type of job is described below.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Collect files from client job

This job collects files from managed computers via relay systems and places them on the managing server. You can also use this type of job to collect files directly from a managed computer, between a managed computer and a relay system, and between a relay system and the managing server.

(2) Collect files from client to relay system job

This job collects files as instructed by the managing server, and stores the collected files on the relay system connected to the managing server where the job was executed.

You can collect files in two stages by using this job together with an Acquire collected files from relay system job.

(3) Acquire collected files from relay system job

This job transfers, to the managing server, files that were collected and stored on the relay system by a Collect files from client to relay system job.

Remote collection imposes a high workload on the network between the relay systems and the managing server. You can make the process more efficient by using a Collect files from client to relay system job first to store collected files temporarily on a relay system. Later, such as at night when network traffic is low, you can use an Acquire collected files from relay system job to transfer those files to the managing server.

(4) Delete collected files from relay system job

This job deletes collected files placed on the relay system by a Collect files from client to relay system job.
