Job Management Partner 1 Version 10 Job Management Partner 1/IT Desktop Management 2 Distribution Function Administration Guide

1.1.2 Types of software that can be distributed

In JP1/IT Desktop Management 2, remotely installed software falls into one of the three categories listed below. The category to which a software product belongs is called its package type.

When packaging software, the Packager automatically determines whether the software is in the category Hitachi program products or Other companies' software. If the software does not belong to either of these categories, the Packager handles it as User programs and data.

Some package types require an AIT file (a file created by the Automatic Installation Tool) during remote installation. For details about remote installation using an AIT file, see the Job Management Partner 1 Version 10 Job Management Partner 1/IT Desktop Management 2 Automatic Installation Tool Administration Guide.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Hitachi program products

You can perform remote installation of multi-license products. For other program products, remote installation can only be used to upgrade the program. Remote installation is not available for some program products such as communications software. To determine whether a program product can be installed remotely, check the accompanying documentation or release notes.

(2) Other companies' software

The term other companies' software refers to commercially available programs provided by companies other than Hitachi. Most multi-license products from other companies are compatible with remote installation. However, remote installation might not be possible depending on the nature of the software or the licensing agreement. If you cannot determine whether remote installation is possible from the software agreement, it is the user's responsibility to obtain permission from the software provider.

If the software uses an interactive installer, you need to use an AIT file to automate the responses to the installer during remote installation.

(3) User programs and data

You can use remote installation to install some or all of the files in a directory. The data created by applications such as spreadsheet programs is also handled as user data.
