IMAP4 operating environment and notes

An IMAP4 probe measures the time required for completing reception of emails addressed to a specified user.

The following describes and provides notes on an IMAP4 operating environment.

Email size

The total size of an email for the IMAP4 probe is the received header plus the message text. There is no limitation to the size of an email that can be acquired.

Deleting emails

The IMAP4 probe acquires the newly arrived emails in an inbox. Executing deletion deletes all the emails in that inbox. This means that at the next measurement, the number of emails to be measured would be zero. Therefore, send emails for measurement again before the next measurement occurs.

Deletion method

The two email deletion methods for IMAP4 are logical deletion and physical deletion. An IMAP4 probe uses the physical email deletion method, so that emails are not accumulated when the IMAP4 probe receives emails that are sent periodically by a program such as a SMTP probe.

RFC compliance

For the functions that are not compliance with RFCs and the restrictions, see the above notes.
