10.5.3 Collecting dump files (in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP)

This section describes how to collect memory dumps and crash dumps in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP.

When a STOP error occurs, Windows outputs a memory dump. You can then collect the dump file.

When a problem occurs in the system, Windows outputs a crash dump. You can use the data collection tool to collect the dump file.

Before you can collect this information, Windows must be configured to output memory dumps and crash dumps when a problem occurs. For details, see 10.5.1 Configuring dump file output. Dump files are output to the path you specify.
