Job Management Partner 1 Version 10 Job Management Partner 1/Integrated Management - Manager Administration Guide

5.1.6 Suppressing monitoring of large numbers of events by setting repeated event conditions

When you use the repeated event monitoring suppression function, you can consolidate JP1 events that meet specified conditions and display them on the Monitor Events page or Severe Events page of the Event Console window. You can set these conditions in the Repeated Event Condition Settings window.

For a general description of the repeated event monitoring suppression function, see 3.4 Suppressing display of repeated events and 3.5 Suppressing monitoring of a large number of events in the Job Management Partner 1/Integrated Management - Manager Overview and System Design Guide.

For details on how to enable the repeated event monitoring suppression function, see 4.3 Setting monitoring of repeated events to be prevented in the Job Management Partner 1/Integrated Management - Manager Configuration Guide.

Organization of this subsection

(1) Using repeated event monitoring suppression to suppress actions associated with repeated events to which automated actions are assigned

You can suppress the monitoring of repeated events by entering repeated event conditions in the Repeated Event Condition Settings window. By setting repeated event conditions when you first set up the JP1/IM system, you can suppress the repeated events that occur during system operation. You can also configure JP1/IM to suppress redundant actions when an automated action is assigned to a repeated event.

  1. In the Event Console window, from the Options menu, choose Repeated Event Condition Settings.

The List of Repeated Event Conditions window appears.

  2. Click Add.

The Repeated Event Condition Settings window appears.

  3. On the Basic Settings page of the Repeated Event Condition Settings window, set the conditions for repeated events.

The attribute names you can use as conditions are defined in the display item definition file for the repeated event condition (event_storm_attr_list.conf). For details on the display item definition file for the repeated event condition, see Display item definition file for the repeated event condition (event_storm_attr_list.conf) in 2. Definition Files in the manual Job Management Partner 1/Integrated Management - Manager Command and Definition File Reference. For details on repeated event conditions, see 2.17 Repeated Event Condition Settings window in the manual Job Management Partner 1/Integrated Management - Manager GUI Reference.

  4. Set the suppression options on the Basic Settings page of the Repeated Event Condition Settings window.

The suppression options are Suppress display of the repeated events list and Suppress actions of the repeated events. To suppress actions associated with repeated events to which automated actions are assigned, select the Suppress actions of the repeated events check box, and then specify the range of events for which actions are to be suppressed. You can specify All repeated events or Repeated events other than repeated start events for the range.

If All repeated events is selected:

Actions are suppressed for all events to be suppressed that match the repeated event conditions being edited.

If Repeated events other than repeated start events is selected:

Actions are suppressed for all events to be suppressed that match the repeated event conditions being edited, except for repeated start events (which triggered suppression).

For details about events for which actions are suppressed, see 3.5.8 Suppressing the execution of automated actions triggered by a large number of events in the Job Management Partner 1/Integrated Management - Manager Overview and System Design Guide.

When a new condition is added, only the Suppress display of the repeated events list check box is selected.

  5. Click OK.

The repeated event conditions appear in the List of Repeated Event Conditions window. You can view the repeated event conditions in this window.

  6. In the List of Repeated Event Conditions window, click Apply.

  7. A confirmation message appears. To apply the settings, click Yes.

The repeated event conditions you added take effect.

(2) Determining whether suppression of repeated event monitoring continues and performing processing

You can determine whether suppression of repeated event monitoring continues for each specified interval (seconds), or every specified number of events. Then, if suppression continues, you can notify by issuing a JP1 event, or cancel suppression.

To specify the timing of checks to decide whether suppression continues, and the processing to be performed when suppression continues:

  1. In the Event Console window, from the Options menu, choose Repeated Event Condition Settings.

The List of Repeated Event Conditions window appears.

  2. Display the Repeated Event Condition Settings window by either of the following methods:

    • Click the Add button in the List of Repeated Event Conditions window.

    • Select a repeated event condition displayed in the List of Repeated Event Conditions window, and then click the Edit button.

  3. On the Options page of the Repeated Event Condition Settings window, select the Enable check box for Checks for suppression to continue.

  4. Specify the timing of checks to decide whether suppression continues.

Select either of the Time or Number of events radio button. For details about their difference, see 3.4.7 Issuing notifications when the suppression of repeated-event display continues in the Job Management Partner 1/Integrated Management - Manager Overview and System Design Guide.

  5. Select the actions to take when suppression continues.

Select either the Issue an event to notify that suppression will continue or Terminate suppression radio button.

When Terminate suppression is selected, if the Issue an event to notify that suppression will be terminated check box is selected, a JP1 event notifying that suppression will be terminated is issued.

  6. Click the OK button.

The repeated event condition is applied to the List of Repeated Event Conditions window.

  7. In the List of Repeated Event Conditions window, click the Apply button.

  8. A confirmation message appears. To apply the settings, click Yes.

The repeated event condition is enabled.

(3) Suppressing repeated event monitoring based on a repeated event that occurred during system operation

In the Repeated Event Condition Settings window, you can suppress repeated event monitoring using the conditions of a repeated event that has occurred during system operation. Conditions added in this manner are called additional repetition event conditions.

  1. In the event list in the Event Console window, select the JP1 event whose monitoring you want to suppress.

  2. Display the Repeated Event Condition Settings window by choosing Suppress by Repeated Event Conditions from the View menu in the Event Console window. Alternatively, choose Suppress by Repeated Event Condition from the popup menu which appears on right clicking.

The Repeated Event Condition Settings window appears, with the attributes of the JP1 event you selected in Step 1 already filled in as the repeated event conditions.

You can change what attributes are automatically filled in by editing the auto-input definition file for the repeated event condition (event_storm_auto_list.conf). For details on the auto-input display item definition file for the repeated event condition, see Auto-input definition file for the repeated event condition (event_storm_auto_list.conf) in 2. Definition Files in the manual Job Management Partner 1/Integrated Management - Manager Command and Definition File Reference.

  3. Edit the items in the Repeated Event Condition Settings window as needed.

  4. Click OK.

The additional repetition event conditions you set appear in the List of Repeated Event Conditions window. The [Figure] icon appears in the Type column for additional repetition event conditions added during system operation.

Supplementary note:

JP1/IM - Manager begins consolidating repeated events when the number of JP1 events that match the conditions reaches a threshold. Monitoring of repeated events is not suppressed until this threshold is reached. If the number of JP1 events that match the repeated event conditions falls below the threshold and stays there for a certain period of time, JP1/IM - Manager stops consolidating the events. A maximum of 1,000,000 events can be consolidated into one event.

(4) Converting additional repetition event conditions to repeated event conditions

You can create repeated event conditions from the additional repetition event conditions you added during system operation.

  1. Display the Repeated Event Condition Settings window by choosing Repeated Event Condition Settings from the Options menu in the Event Console window.

  2. In the List of repeated event conditions area in the List of Repeated Event Conditions window, select an additional repetition event condition (a condition with the [Figure] icon in the Type column) that you want to convert to a repeated event condition.

  3. Click Type.

  4. A confirmation message appears. To change the condition to a repeated event condition, click Yes.

The selected additional repetition event condition is converted to a repeated event condition.

  5. In the List of Repeated Event Conditions window, click Apply.

  6. A confirmation message appears. To apply the change, click Yes.

The additional repetition event condition takes effect.
