To extract data from a HiRDB or ORACLE database and then import it into a HiRDB database or create files, you must use the TCP/IP communication protocol. This requires the following specifications:

• Name of the host on the import or file creation system (register this host name in /etc/hosts/ on the source system)
• HiRDB Dataextractor's port number on the import or file creation system (register this port number in /etc/services on the target system or file creation system)

To do the following, you must set up a communication environment with XNF or XNF E2.

• Extract data from XDM/RD and import it into HiRDB or create a file.
• Extract data from a sequential dataset and then import it into HiRDB or create a file.
• Extract data from HiRDB or ORACLE and then import it into XDM/RD or create a sequential dataset.
