4.3.2 Software information management

The managing server can collect and manage user-specific information (software information) such as machine installation location, user name and phone numbers in any format.

When the managing server is a Windows version of JP1/Software Distribution Manager, the user-specific information can be collected periodically. The collection timing can be daily, weekly, or monthly. For details, see the manual on the Windows version. When the collection timing is specified, all user-specific information is collected only when a change is made to the user-specific information.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Input of user inventories
(2) Update User Information dialog box

(1) Input of user inventories

The Windows managing server distributes an input screen (Software Distribution - Update User Information dialog box) to distribution-destination systems for users to enter information. This allows the managing server to manage a wide variety of information as user inventory. The user at each distribution-destination system must check whether an input request has arrived, and then type details in the entry boxes. To check for an input request and display the dialog box, use the rdsusrinv command.

If you enter invalid characters or omit required items, a message dialog box appears, requesting re-entry. If the items to be entered are changed by the managing server, an error occurs if you close the dialog box with the information that you set last time still displayed.

You can also enter software information by executing the rdsusrinv command from the command line with the -s option specified. For details on how to do this, see 9. Command Operations for Client Services and Generator Tools in PART 3.

When the acquiring of software information job is executed through the local system, software information received from the lower-level systems is notified to the managing server set in the settings file.

(2) Update User Information dialog box

To display the Software Distribution - Update User Information dialog box, enter and execute the rdsusrinv command.
