2.1.1 Distribution via a temporary package storehouse on a relay system

When a package is distributed via a relay system, the relay system places the received package in a temporary package storehouse, and then sends a copy of the package to each client. The advantage of this method is that the volume of data transferred between the managing server and relay system is minimized.

Figure 2-1 illustrates package distribution using a relay system.

[Figure]

If an error occurs during distribution, distribution is resumed from the following points after restoration.

The following types of operations are possible in distribution using the relay system.

Organization of this subsection
(1) Distribution by creating a hierarchy in the relay system
(2) Transfer package to relay system
(3) Grouping and distributing the distribution-destination system

(1) Distribution by creating a hierarchy in the relay system

You can further reduce the data traffic or a WAN by connecting multiple relay systems hierarchically. However, you must be aware of the following:

(2) Transfer package to relay system

You can half the package distribution at the temporary package storehouse on the relay system, and perform further distribution at a later time (Transfer package to relay system job). You can also use the distributor tools of JP1/Software Distribution Client to distribute the packages stored in the temporary package storehouse on the relay system.

(3) Grouping and distributing the distribution-destination system

You can group the distribution-destination systems by model or job, and distribute packages to a selected group. For the distribution-destination system group, assign an ID group, which indicates a group name. For details on how to create the ID group and how to distribute the package by specifying the ID group, see 4.4 Grouping distribution-destinations.
