1.2.2 Software configuration

The following describes the software that makes up a JP1/Software Distribution system, and the prerequisite programs for JP1/Software Distribution Client.

(1) Software used in a JP1/Software Distribution system

The software used in a JP1/Software Distribution system is listed below. Programs in the previous version of JP1/Software Distribution can also be used, but with restricted functionality.

(a) Software for the managing server

The following software runs on the managing server:

JP1/Software Distribution Manager (UNIX and Windows versions)
Provides managing server functions. The UNIX version is provided in JP1 Version 6i.

JP1/Software Distribution Manager Basic Function (UNIX only)
This is a program of JP1 Version 6i. This program provides only the services of JP1/Software Distribution Manager. Some restrictions apply to the program functions.

JP1/Software Distribution (UNIX and Windows versions)
Program that provides managing server functions in the old version of JP1/Software Distribution.

(b) Software for the relay systems

The following software runs on the relay systems:

JP1/Software Distribution Client (UNIX version, Windows version)
This program provides the functions of relay systems, distribution-destination systems, and packagers. The UNIX version is provided in Version 9 or later, and the Windows version is provided in Version 8 or later.

JP1/Software Distribution SubManager (UNIX)
This is a program of JP1 Version 8 or an earlier version. This program provides relay system functions and packager functions.

JP1/Software Distribution SubManager (Windows)
This is a program of JP1 Version 7i or an earlier version. This program provides relay system functions and packager functions.

JP1/Software Distribution Workstation (UNIX only)
Program that provides relay system functions, distribution-destination system functions, and packager functions under UNIX in the old version of JP1/Software Distribution.

(c) Software for the distribution-destination systems

The following software runs on the distribution-destination systems:

JP1/Software Distribution Client (UNIX)
Provides distribution-destination system functions and packager functions.
In JP1 Version 9 or later, this program also provides relay system functions.

JP1/Software Distribution Client (Windows)
This program provides distribution-destination system functions and packager functions. In JP1 Version 8 or later, this program also provides relay system functions.

JP1/Software Distribution Workstation (UNIX only)
Program that provides relay system functions, distribution-destination system functions, and packager functions under UNIX in the old version of JP1/Software Distribution.

(2) Software relating to JP1/Software Distribution Client functions

The following software is required to use JP1/Software Distribution Client.

X Window System

The standard GUI program for the particular operating system must be installed.

JP1/IM - Manager

This JP1 program enables events to be monitored across the network, and actions to be executed automatically in response to events. In JP1/Software Distribution Client, events that occur can be automatically reported to JP1/IM - Manager such that actions are executed automatically in response to events.
