4.2.1 Basic system configuration linked to JP1/Software Distribution

The figure below shows an example of the basic system configuration for an asset management system linked to JP1/Software Distribution. This example shows a basic configuration where the asset management server connects to the JP1/Software Distribution server and acquires the managed client's asset information. The examples shown in 4.2.2 through 4.2.5 are also based on this system configuration.

The following points should be noted about your system configuration:

Asset management server
  • With the asset management server, the components of the Asset Information Manager that must be installed are the asset management server and the Linkage with JP1/SD.
  • If the asset management server and the JP1/Software Distribution server are to be distributed, the remote installation manager (JP1/Software Distribution Manager component) must be installed on the asset management server.
  • If you use Embedded RDB for the asset management database, a DBMS client is not needed.

Asset management database server
  • You can place the asset management server and database server on the same machine. However, if there are many devices to be managed and the machine will be accessed frequently from the clients, Hitachi recommends that you place the asset management server and the asset management database server on different machines.
If you use Embedded RDB, the machine used as the asset management server is also used for the asset management database server.

JP1/Software Distribution server
  • You can place the JP1/Software Distribution server and Asset Information Manager on the same machine.
  • To acquire information from a machine on which JP1/Software Distribution is not installed or to collect inventory information on a real-time basis, you need JP1/Software Distribution Manager 07-50 or later.

Client
If the environment supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or later, Windows Internet Explorer 7, Windows Internet Explorer 8, or Windows Internet Explorer 9, no program is required.

Managed clients
  • To collect inventory information, JP1/Software Distribution Client must be installed on the management target client.
  • If the JP1/Software Distribution Client version is 07-50 or older, updating of inventory information cannot be automatically communicated to JP1/Software Distribution Manager.
