Appendix A.5 Monitoring the status of JP1/AJS3

You can determine the operation status of JP1/AJS3 - Manager, execution status of jobs in jobnets, and operation status of JP1/AJS3 - Agent based on the color of JP1AJS2 symbols. In addition, you can obtain detailed information from the Alarms Browser and the ajsdetail window.

When the status of JP1/AJS3 - Manager or JP1/AJS3 - Agent changes, an SNMP trap reporting the status change is sent to NNM. Then, NNM displays the symbols in a color that corresponds to the reported status.

When JP1/AJS3 - Manager is monitoring the scheduler status, the monitoring process checks the jobnet every 5 minutes. Therefore, a job status change is applied to NNM symbols a maximum of 5 minutes later than the time at which the status was changed.

The status monitoring process of the scheduler is common to the physical and logical hosts. If at least one job in the Warning or Abnormal status exists on a host, regardless of whether the host is a physical host or logical host, the process assumes JP1/AJS3 - Manager to be abnormal and notifies NNM symbols of the abnormal status.

Even if you remove the cause of the status change that is reported to NNM while you are using JP1/AJS3 - Manager or JP1/AJS3 - Agent, the symbol indicating the operation status of JP1/AJS3 - Manager or JP1/AJS3 - Agent is not initialized to keep indicating the status of a higher severity level (for example, if an error occurs in JP1/AJS3 and the error is reported to NNM, the JP1AJS2 symbol of NNM remains displayed in the color indicating an error even if you remove the cause of the error). When this occurs, reset the symbol manually.

This section describes how to interpret the JP1AJS2 symbols shown in the node submap, how to read the messages shown in the Alarms Browser, and how to use detailed information shown in the ajsdetail window, as well as how to reset the status of the JP1AJS2 symbols.

The colors and meanings of JP1AJS2 symbols shown in the node submap vary depending on whether the status of JP1/AJS3 - Manager or JP1/AJS3 - Agent is monitored. Table A-9 shows symbol colors and their meanings when monitoring the status of JP1/AJS3 - Manager. Table A-10 shows symbol colors and their meanings when monitoring the status of JP1/AJS3 - Agent.

How to display the Status Alarms Browser
In NNM's Alarm Categories, click the Status Alarms button.

You can also obtain details on a message shown in the Alarms Browser by double-clicking the event in the Event setup dialog box in NNM to display the Event change dialog box. However, do not change the settings for the event.

(3) Viewing detailed information in the ajsdetail window

When NNM receives an SNMP trap from JP1/AJS3 - Manager or JP1/AJS3 - Agent, it displays detailed information regarding the operation status of JP1/AJS3 - Manager, execution status of jobs in jobnets, or operation status of JP1/AJS3 - Agent in the ajsdetail window.

The following describes how to display the ajsdetail window and the meaning of the items displayed in the window.

To display the ajsdetail window:

Click the JP1AJS2 symbol about which you want to display detailed information, and then choose Administer, JP1/AJS2 Manager, and View Detail.
The ajsdetail window appears.

Displays the names of the JP1/AJS3 functions.

Process Manager

This function does not work while the status of JP1/AJS3 - Agent is being monitored.

Event Action
Operation control with event jobs

Service Name

Displays the names of scheduler services.

Status

Indicates the status of each function. For details, see (1) Interpreting JP1AJS2 symbols shown in the node submap.

JP1 Host Name

Displays the appropriate logical host name when multiple logical hosts are activated.

Message

Nothing displayed.

Cautionary notes

When the scheduler service configuration is changed, the status before the change remains in the JP1AJS2 symbol objects. If the status of the scheduler service whose configuration was changed is not correctly reflected in the ajsdetail window, enable the new configuration.

To enable the new configuration:

Use the ajsovsymrem command to delete, in one operation, the JP1AJS2 symbols from the node submap.
For details on the ajsovsymrem command, see C.3 ajsovsymrem.

Restart the JP1/AJS3 service.

Re-create the JP1AJS2 symbols by the method creating symbols for all hosts.
For details, see subsection A.4(1) Creating symbols.

(4) Resetting JP1AJS2 symbols

If, after JP1/AJS3 - Manager or JP1/AJS3 - Agent has reported an operation status to NNM, you remove the factor of the status change, reset the JP1AJS2 symbol. Usually, you must reset it to the Normal. However, if you are not sure about the operation status or execution status of jobs, reset it to Unknown.

To reset the JP1AJS2 symbol:

Click the JP1AJS2 symbol that you want to reset. Then, choose Administer, JP1/AJS2 Manager, Initial symbol and Normal or Unknown.
The JP1AJS2 symbol is reset to a Normal or an Unknown status.
