Job Management Partner 1/Automatic Job Management System 3 System Design (Configuration) Guide
Backing up a JP1/AJS3 system involves backing up the settings information needed to run the system. Before starting operations, back up all files that contain settings information, as well as settings information output by executing a JP1/AJS3 command.
Depending on the state of the system after a failure, the backup data will be restored during the recovery process. Because you only back up the settings information needed to run JP1/AJS3, after the settings are restored you will need to perform other operations again, such as re-registering jobnets for execution. You can also back up and restore the execution registration status of jobnets, using the function for exporting or importing jobnet registered execution-schedule information. For details, see 4.4 Backing up and recovering the execution registration status of jobnets by using the ajsrgexport and ajsrgimport commands in the Job Management Partner 1/Automatic Job Management System 3 Administration Guide.
When backing up and restoring all JP1/AJS3 system settings, bear in mind their consistency with other data and applications. For example, even if the JP1/AJS3 system is successfully restored exactly as it was when the backup was taken, problems could still arise unless everything, including user jobs executed from JP1/AJS3, is restored to a consistent state. When backing up and restoring the entire system, you must consider what state (the point in time) you want to restore the system to, and whether any consistency issues will arise. With products such as JP1/AJS3, which link to a variety of other programs, it is extremely difficult to ensure consistency across the entire system. Consistency might be achievable, but only by imposing various constraints on the user jobs executed in the system. That would be contrary to JP1/AJS3's key purpose of flexibly managing program operations through the use of jobnets. This is why we recommend limiting backup and recovery procedures to settings information only.
For details about how to back up and restore settings information, see 2. Backup and Recovery in the Job Management Partner 1/Automatic Job Management System 3 Administration Guide.
To perform a full backup, JP1/AJS3 must be in stopped state. When restoring the system from a full backup, perform a cold start of JP1/AJS3 to initialize the registration and execution information for the jobnets and jobs.
