Appendix D.3 Kernel parameters in AIX

Organization of this subsection
(1) System resources required for PFM - Manager
(2) System resources required for PFM - Base
(3) System resources required for using Store 2.0 as the Store database for PFM - Agent or PFM - RM

(1) System resources required for PFM - Manager

The following table describes the system resources required for PFM - Manager.

System resources Parameter Estimate
File system nofiles 330 + 100 x Number of products for PFM - Agent to be monitored#1
nofiles_hard 330 + 100 x Number of products for PFM - Agent to be monitored#1
Shared memory shmmni --
shmmax --
shmmin --
Semaphore semmni --
semvmx --
semume --
semopm --
Process maxuproc 11 + 2 x Number of commands to be executed simultaneously#2
Message queue msgmni --
msgmax --
msgmnm --
Memory data_hard 104,857,600
stack_hard 134,217,728

Legend:
--: Parameters not requiring adjustment

#1
If instances are started, the number of instances is also added.

#2
The maximum number of commands to be executed simultaneously. For example, if you use the system in such a manner that the jpctool db backup -direct command is executed simultaneously on multiple agents, this value corresponds to the number of times the command is executed simultaneously.

(2) System resources required for PFM - Base

The following table describes the system resources required for PFM - Base.

System resources Parameter Estimate
File system nofiles 30
nofiles_hard 30
Shared memory shmmni --
shmmax --
shmmin --
Semaphore semmni --
semvmx --
semume --
semopm --
Process maxuprc 3 + 2 x Number of commands to be executed simultaneously#
Message queue msgmni --
msgmax --
msgmnm --
Memory data_hard 2,560,000
stack_hard 2,560,000

Legend:
--: Parameters not requiring adjustment

#
The maximum number of commands to be executed simultaneously. For example, if you use the system in such a manner that the jpctool db backup -direct command is executed simultaneously on multiple agents, this value corresponds to the number of times the command is executed simultaneously.

(3) System resources required for using Store 2.0 as the Store database for PFM - Agent or PFM - RM

The following table describes the additional system resources required when using the Store 2.0 functionality supported from version 08-11 of PFM - Base and PFM - Manager.

System resources Parameter Estimate (additional requirement)
File system nofiles Number of files opened by the Store service#
nofiles_hard

#
For details on how to estimate the number of files opened by the Store service, see C.4(1)(d) Number of files opened by the Store service. You can use the ulimit command to change the maximum number of files that can be opened at one time. If the estimate for the kernel parameters exceeds the upper limit for the system, use the ulimit command to re-specify a larger value.
