Job Management Partner 1/Performance Management Planning and Configuration Guide
The number of PFM - Web Consoles, PFM - Agents, and PFM - RMs that can connect to a single PFM - Manager depends on the system configuration used and network environment. The approximate number of PFM - Web Consoles, PFM - Agents, and PRM - RMs that can connect to a single PFM - Manager is shown below:
- Organization of this subsection
- (1) Number of PFM - Web Consoles that can connect to a PFM - Manager
- (2) Number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs that can connect to a PFM Manager
- (3) Number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs to which PFM - Web Console can connect
(1) Number of PFM - Web Consoles that can connect to a PFM - Manager
The maximum number of PFM - Web Consoles that can connect to a single PFM - Manager is 20.
(2) Number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs that can connect to a PFM Manager
The maximum number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs that can connect to a PFM - Manager is 500. However, frequently issued alarm events from the PFM - Agent and PFM - RM or simultaneously issued alarm events from many PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs sometimes delay the alarm event processing of PFM - Manager. The following table shows the maximum number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs for which a single PFM - Manager can efficiently handle alarm events.
However, the load on system performance caused by programs other than Performance Management is not considered. Check the system operation before starting the operation, because the number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs is an estimated value.
Table A-1 Maximum number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs that can connect to a single PFM - Manager
Frequency of alarm events (times/hour)#1#2 Number of connectable PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs 60 68 30 119 20 163 10 267 5 422 4 472 1 500
- #1:
- The number of alarm events issued per hour for a single PFM - Agent or PFM - RM
- #2:
- The frequency of alarm events depends on the alarm setting.
- See the section that describes operation monitoring with alarms in the Job Management Partner 1/Performance Management User's Guide to estimate the frequency of alarm events for a particular environment. Then calculate the number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs that can connect to PFM - Manager.
Calculate the number of connectable PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs as follows:
- For PFM - Agent
The number of PFM - Agents indicates the number of operating Agent Collector services.
If a host contains two multi-instance agents and one single-instance agent, the number of PFM - Agents on the host is three.
- For PFM - RM:
The number of PFM - RMs indicates the total number of operating RM Collector services, monitoring remote agents, and group agents.
PFM - RM creates one group agent per instance. If a host contains two PFM - RM instances, and each instance is monitoring 10 remote agents, the number of PFM - RMs on the host is calculated as follows:
- Notes:
- If a single PFM - Agent or PFM - RM monitors an application program that can start multiple service sets on a single host, count the one instance as one.
- A value greater than 0 must be set for the number of alarm events issued per hour for a single PFM - Agent or PFM - RM.
- If the number of PFM - Agents or PFM - RMs exceeds the maximum number of connections for a system, operate the system by deploying PFM - Manager at each site and distributing the PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs. In this case, operate the system by connecting PFM - Web Console to the PFM - Manager at each site.
- Frequently issued alarm events from the PFM - Agent and PFM - RM or simultaneously issued alarm events from many PFM - Agents and PFM - RM sometimes delay the alarm event processing of PFM - Manager. In such cases, manage the system by deploying PFM - Manager at each site, and distributing PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs.
- If you set an action for an alarm and select something other than LOCAL for the Action handler in the Command field on the New Alarm > Action Definitions window of the PFM - Web Console's browser, the load on PFM - Manager might increase severely. When an alarm triggers an action in a large system, select LOCAL for the Action handler in the Command field on the New Alarm > Action Definitions window to prevent the load on the PFM - Manager host from increasing severely.
- If you set an alarm and select Always notify or Evaluate all data in the Advanced settings area on the New Alarm > Main Information window of the PFM - Web Console's browser, alarm events will be issued more frequently. If you select these in a large system, do not increase the load on the system by setting the interval to high under Damping.
- Starting PFM - Manager while many PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs are being started sometimes delays the start of PFM - Manager. In such cases, start PFM - Manager before starting the PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs.
(3) Number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs to which PFM - Web Console can connect
This number is the maximum number of PFM - Agents and PFM - RMs to which a single PFM - Manager can connect.
