4.2.1 Expanding the system scale by increasing hosts (scale out)

In the scale out operation, the processing performance of the entire system can be improved by increasing the number of hosts, thereby expanding the system scale.

In the Smart Composer functionality, you can increase the hosts and logical servers in batch for each service unit. In the management portal, you can also increase the hosts and the logical servers separately by using respective windows of the Management Portal window.

Example of system operations

The following figure shows an example of the system operations of expanding the scale by increasing the number of hosts. The system used in this example is set up in 4.1 System setup for improving machine performance by allocating Web server to a different host.

Figure 4-6 Example of the system operations of the expanding the scale by increasing the number of hosts

[Figure]

The following table describes the settings used in the example:

Table 4-19 Settings used in the example (System scale out)

Classification Item Example of settings
Entire system Name of the configuration change definition file MyWebSystemAdd.xml
Name of the Web system MyWebSystem
Name of the service unit to be added unit2
Host for allocating the Web server to be added Host name apsv3
IP address (management IP address)# 192.168.100.13
Name of the logical Web server MyWebSystem_HTTP02
Name of the logical performance tracer MyWebSystem_PRF03
Host for allocating the J2EE server to be added Host name apsv4
IP address (management IP address)# 192.168.100.14
Name of logical J2EE server MyWebSystem_J2EE02
Name of logical performance tracer MyWebSystem_PRF04
Name of resource adapter file DBConnector_HiRDB_Type4_CP.rar
Display name of resource adapter DB_Connector_for_HiRDB_Type4
Name of the Connector property file MyDBConnectorAttr.xml
File name of J2EE application MyApp.ear
Display name of J2EE application MyApp

Note: If the network consists of one configuration, the IP address serves as both the business IP address and the management IP address.

Tasks to be executed and necessity of the tasks

The following table describes the tasks to be executed during system scale out and the necessity of these tasks. Use the Smart composer functionality to implement the system scale out.
