Appendix I.2 Notes on playing agent sound on a security PC

To play sound for an agent other than FLORA bd and FLORA gd on a security PC, the agent must meet prerequisites described below.

(1) Agent prerequisites

For agent sound to be played on a security PC, the agent must meet the following conditions:

For information about how to check whether it is possible to record sound by using a mixer device when the speaker volume is set to 0, see (2) Checking whether or not sound from a mixer device can be recorded.

(2) Checking whether or not sound from a mixer device can be recorded

The following procedure describes how to check whether or not sound from a mixer device of an agent can be recorded when the speaker volume is set to 0:

In Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000:
  1. Open Control Panel, and choose Sounds and Audio Devices (In Windows 2000, click Sound and Multimedia).
  2. In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box (In Windows 2000, the Sounds and Multimedia Properties dialog box), click the Audio tab. In the Sound Recording section, click the Volume button.
  3. In the Wave In dialog box, from the Options menu, choose Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, select Stereo Mixer from the list in the Show the following volume controls section, and then click the OK button.
    If you cannot find Stereo Mixer in the list, select a device that contains Wave or mixer in its name, or any one of the following devices:
    • Mixer
    • Monaural Mixer
    • Stereo Mix
    • Stereo Out
    • Wave Out Mix
    If none of the above is displayed, no sound can be recorded from a mixer device regardless of the speaker volume.
  5. In the Wave In dialog box, select the check box of the device you selected in step 4.
  6. In the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, click the Volume tab and either select the Mute check box in the Device volume section or move the slider to Low. Then click the OK button.
    In Windows 2000, in the Sounds and Multimedia Properties dialog box, click the Audio tab. In the Sound Playback section, click the Volume button. When the Volume Control dialog box appears, either select the Mute check box for the device you selected in step 4 or move the slider down to the bottom.
  7. From the Start menu, choose Accessories, Entertainment, and then Sound Recorder.
  8. In the Sound - Sound Recorder dialog box, click the [Figure] (Record) button.
  9. Within 60 seconds, open the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box, and then click the Sounds tab. From the Program events list, select any of the listed events such as Start Windows or Exit Windows, and then click the OK button.
    In Windows 2000, within 60 seconds, open the Sounds and Multimedia Properties dialog box, and click the Sound tab. From the Sound Events list, select any of the listed events such as Start Windows or Exit Windows, and then click the OK button.
  10. In the Sound - Sound Recorder dialog box, check whether the green line is fluctuating.
    If the green line is not fluctuating, no sound can be recorded from the mixer device.

In Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista:
  1. Open Control Panel, and choose Hardware and Sound and then Sound.
  2. In the Sound dialog box, click the Recording tab.
  3. Right-click in the area where recording devices are displayed. From the displayed menu, choose Show Disabled Devices.
  4. Right-click Stereo Mixer, and choose Enable from the displayed menu.
    If you cannot find Stereo Mixer in the list, select a device that contains Wave or mixer in its name, or any one of the following devices:
    • Mixer
    • Monaural Mixer
    • Stereo Mix
    • Stereo Out
    • Wave Out Mix
    If none of the above is displayed, no sound can be recorded from a mixer device regardless of the speaker level.
  5. Right-click to display the menu again, and choose Set as Default Device.
  6. In the Sound dialog box, click the Playback tab. Select Speakers, and then click the Properties button.
  7. In the Speakers Properties dialog box, click the Levels tab. Then either drag the Levels slider to 0, or click the speaker icon to mute the sound, and then click the OK button.
  8. From the Start menu, choose Accessories, and then Sound Recorder.
  9. In the Sound Recorder dialog box, click the button to start recording.
  10. Within 60 seconds, open the Sound dialog box, and then click the Sounds tab. From the Program events list, select any of the listed events such as Start Windows or Exit Windows, and then click the button to the left of the Browse button to test the sound.
  11. In the Sound Recorder dialog box, check whether the green line is fluctuating.
    If the green line is not fluctuating, no sound can be recorded from the mixer device.

(3) Notes on transferring sound from Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista agent

When a security PC has been connected to a Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista agent, a mixer device must be enabled beforehand to transfer sound to the security PC.

To enable a mixer device:

  1. Open Control Panel, and choose Hardware and Sound and then Sound.
  2. In the Sound dialog box, select the Recording tab.
  3. Right-click the area where recording devices are displayed. From the displayed menu, select Show Disabled Devices.
  4. Right-click Stereo Mixer (or a device that contains Wave or mixer in its name), and then choose Enable from the displayed menu.
  5. Right-click to display the menu again, and choose Set as Default Device.
  6. Click the OK button.

If you performed this operation from a security PC, terminate Remote Controller and then reconnect it.
