This manual uses the following conventions in diagrams:
Conventions: Fonts and symbols
Font and symbol conventions are classified as:
- General font conventions
- Conventions in syntax explanations
These conventions are described below.
General font conventions
The following table lists the general font conventions:
Font Convention Bold Bold type indicates text on a window, other than the window title. Such text includes menus, menu options, buttons, radio box options, or explanatory labels. For example, bold is used in sentences such as the following:
- From the File menu, choose Open.
- Click the Cancel button.
- In the Enter name entry box, type your name.
Italics Italics are used to indicate a placeholder for some actual text provided by the user or system. Italics are also used for emphasis. For example:
- Write the command as follows:
copy source-file target-file
- Do not delete the configuration file.
Code font A code font indicates text that the user enters without change, or text (such as messages) output by the system. For example:
- At the prompt, enter dir.
- Use the send command to send mail.
- The following message is displayed:
The password is incorrect.
The following table lists the general symbol conventions:
Symbol Convention | In syntax explanations, a vertical bar separates multiple items, and has the meaning of OR. For example:
A|B|C means A, or B, or C.{ } In syntax explanations, curly brackets indicate that only one of the enclosed items is to be selected. For example:
{A|B|C} means only one of A, or B, or C.Examples of coding and messages appear as follows (although there may be some exceptions, such as when coding is included in a diagram):
MakeDatabase ... StoreDatabase temp DB32In examples of coding, an ellipsis (...) indicates that one or more lines of coding are not shown for purposes of brevity.
Conventions for mathematical expressions
This manual uses the following symbols in mathematical expressions:
Symbol Meaning x Multiplication sign / Division sign
Conventions: Format of product names, service IDs, and service keys in this manual
In Performance Management 09-00 or a later version, you can display service IDs and service keys as product names by enabling the product name display function.
Identifier Product name display function Disabled Enabled Service ID 5S instance-number-instance-name[host-name] instance-name[host-name]<VirtualMachine>(Store) 5A instance-number-instance-name[host-name] instance-name[host-name]<VirtualMachine> Service key agt5 VM This manual uses the format that is in effect when the product name display function is enabled.
To enable the product name display function, both of the following conditions must be satisfied:
- The version of the prerequisite program on the computer on which PFM - Agent is installed is 09-00 or later.
- The version of PFM - Web Console and PFM - Manager at the connection destination is 09-00 or later.
- The physical servers of VMware and Hyper-V systems might be referred to collectively as physical servers. The virtual machines of VMware and Hyper-V systems might be referred collectively to as virtual machines.
Conventions: Formats of commands in this manual
Commands in a new format that are compatible with commands used in 08-51 or earlier versions have been added to Performance Management 09-00 and later versions. Therefore, this manual uses the following convention for commands:
- command-in-new-format (command-from-08-51-or-earlier)
- Example:
- jpcconf agent setup (jpcagtsetup)
- In this example, jpcconf agent setup is the command in the new format and jpcagtsetup is the command from 08-51 or an earlier version.
The new commands can be used only when the version of the prerequisite program (PFM - Manager or PFM - Base) on the computer on which PFM - Agent is installed is 09-00 or later. Note that commands from 08-51 or an earlier version can be used even when the version of the prerequisite program is 09-00 or later.
Conventions: KB, MB, GB, and TB
This manual uses the following conventions:
- 1 KB (kilobyte) is 1,024 bytes.
- 1 MB (megabyte) is 1,0242 bytes.
- 1 GB (gigabyte) is 1,0243 bytes.
- 1 TB (terabyte) is 1,0244 bytes.
Conventions: Meaning of "folder" and "directory"
As a rule, when folder used in Windows is the same as directory used in UNIX, this manual standardizes on the term directory.
Conventions: Performance Management installation folders
In this manual, an installation folder for a Windows version of Performance Management is referred to as an installation folder.
The following indicates the default installation folders for the Windows versions of Performance Management.
- Installation folder for Performance Management programs other than PFM - Web Console
For versions other than Windows Server 2003 (x64) and the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008
- system-drive\Program Files\Hitachi\jp1pc\
For Windows Server 2003 (x64) and the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008
- system-drive\Program Files (x86)\Hitachi\jp1pc\
- Installation folder for PFM - Web Console
For versions other than Windows Server 2003 (x64) and the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008
- system-drive\Program Files\Hitachi\jp1pcWebCon\
For Windows Server 2003 (x64) and the 64-bit version of Windows Server 2008
- system-drive\Program Files (x86)\Hitachi\jp1pcWebCon\
The version numbers of Hitachi program products are usually written as two sets of two digits each, separated by a hyphen. For example:
- Version 1.00 (or 1.0) is written as 01-00.
- Version 2.05 is written as 02-05.
- Version 2.50 (or 2.5) is written as 02-50.
- Version 12.25 is written as 12-25.
The version number might be shown on the spine of a manual as Ver. 2.00, but the same version number would be written in the program as 02-00.
