2.1.3 Installation procedure

This section explains the order in which to install PFM - Agent programs and how to install them from the CD-ROM provided.

(1) Program installation procedure

First install PFM - Base and then install PFM - Agent. You cannot install PFM - Agent on a host on which PFM - Base is not installed.

When installing PFM - Agent on the same host as PFM - Manager, install PFM - Manager first, followed by PFM - Agent. When the Store database version is updated from 1.0 to 2.0, the setup procedure differs depending on the version of PFM - Manager or PFM - Base that is already installed. For details about how to set up version 2.0 of the Store database, see 2.4.2 Updating the Store version to 2.0.

When installing multiple copies of PFM - Agent on the same host, the order in which the copies are installed does not matter.

(2) Program installation method

To install Performance Management programs on a UNIX host, you can either use the CD-ROM provided or remotely install them using JP1/Software Distribution. For details about how to use JP1/Software Distribution, see the following manuals:

The following explains the installation procedure for each OS when you use the provided media for the CD-ROM.

(a) For HP-UX

To install Performance Management programs using the CD-ROM:

  1. As a superuser, log on to the host on which Performance Management programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  2. Stop all Performance Management programs and services on the local host.
    If Performance Management programs and services are active, stop them all.

  3. Set the media for Performance Management programs.

  4. Execute the mount command to mount the CD-ROM device.
    For example, to mount the CD-ROM device to /cdrom, specify as follows to execute the command:
    /usr/sbin/mount -F cdfs -r device-special-file-name /cdrom
    The specified command differs depending on the environment used.

  5. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:
    /cdrom/IPFHPUX/SETUP /cdrom
    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.

  6. Enter I in the initial window.
    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  7. Select the Performance Management programs you wish to install, and enter I.
    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  8. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.
    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

(b) For Solaris 9 (SPARC) and Solaris 10 (SPARC)

To install Performance Management programs using the CD-ROM:

  1. As the superuser, log on to the host on which Performance Management programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  2. Stop all Performance Management programs and services on the local host.
    If Performance Management programs and services are active, stop them all.

  3. Set the media for Performance Management programs.

  4. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:#
     
/cdrom/cdrom/SOLARIS/SETUP /cdrom/cdrom
    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.
    The specified command differs depending on the environment used.

  5. Enter I in the initial window.
    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  6. Select the Performance Management programs you wish to install, and enter I.
    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  7. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.
    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

In an environment in which the auto mount function is disabled, specify the /usr/sbin/mount command as follows and mount the CD-ROM device before starting Hitachi PP Installer:
 
/usr/sbin/mount -F cdfs -r device-special-file-name /cdrom/cdrom
The specified command differs depending on the environment used.

(c) For Solaris 10 (x86) and Solaris 10 (x64)

To install Performance Management programs using the CD-ROM:

  1. As the superuser, log on to the host on which Performance Management programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  2. Stop all Performance Management programs and services on the local host.
    If Performance Management programs and services are active, stop them all.

  3. Set the media for Performance Management programs.

  4. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:#
     
/cdrom/cdrom/X86SOL/SETUP /cdrom/cdrom
    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.
    Note that the command you need to specify differs depending on the environment.

  5. In the initial window, enter I.
    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  6. Select the Performance Management programs you wish to install, and enter I.
    The selected programs are installed. To select a program, move the cursor and press the space bar.

  7. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.
    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

Before starting Hitachi PP Installer in an environment in which the auto mount function is disabled, specify the /usr/sbin/mount command as follows to mount the CD-ROM device:
 
/usr/sbin/mount -F cdfs -r device-special-file-name /cdrom/cdrom
The command you need to specify differs depending on the environment.

(d) For AIX

To install Performance Management programs using the CD-ROM:

  1. As the superuser, log on to the host on which Performance Management programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  2. Stop all Performance Management programs and services on the local host.
    If Performance Management programs and services are active, stop them all.

  3. Set the media for Performance Management programs.

  4. Execute the mount command to mount the CD-ROM device.
    For example, to mount the CD-ROM device to /cdrom, specify as follows to execute the command:
     
/usr/sbin/mount -r -v cdrfs /dev/cd0 /cdrom

  5. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:
     
/cdrom/AIX/SETUP /cdrom
    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.

  6. Enter I in the initial window.
    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  7. Select the Performance Management programs you wish to install, and enter I.
    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  8. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.
    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

(e) For Linux (x86) or Linux (x64)

To install Performance Management programs using the CD-ROM:

  1. Make sure that the installation directory for PFM - Agent for Platform is the real directory.

  2. As the superuser, log on to the host on which Performance Management programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  3. Stop all Performance Management programs and services on the local host.
    If Performance Management programs and services are active, stop them all.

  4. Set the media for Performance Management programs.

  5. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:#
    /media/cdrecorder/LINUX/SETUP /media/cdrecorder
    The above underlined parts, which indicate the mount-point directory name for the CD-ROM file system, vary depending on the environment being used.
    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.

  6. Enter I in the initial window.
    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  7. Select the Performance Management programs you wish to install, and enter I.
    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  8. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.
    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.

If automatic mounting has been disabled, execute the /bin/mount command in the following format to mount the CD-ROM drive before starting Hitachi PP Installer:
 
/bin/mount -r -o mode=0544 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrecorder
The above specified command name and the underlined parts, which indicate the device special file name and mount-point directory name for the CD-ROM file system, vary depending on the environment being used.

(f) For Linux (IPF)

To install Performance Management programs using the CD-ROM:

  1. Make sure that the installation directory for PFM - Agent for Platform is the real directory.

  2. As the superuser, log on to the host on which Performance Management programs are to be installed, or use the su command to change the user to superuser.

  3. Stop all Performance Management programs and services on the local host.
    If Performance Management programs and services are active, stop them all.

  4. Set the media for Performance Management programs.

  5. Execute the following command to start Hitachi PP Installer:#
    /media/cdrecorder/IPLINUX/SETUP /media/cdrecorder/
    The above underlined parts, which indicate the mount-point directory name for the CD-ROM file system, vary depending on the environment being used.
    Hitachi PP Installer starts and the initial window appears.

  6. Enter I in the initial window.
    A list of programs that can be installed appears.

  7. Select the Performance Management programs you wish to install, and enter I.
    The selected programs are installed. Note that you can move the cursor and use the space key to select programs.

  8. After installation is correctly finished, enter Q.
    The initial window of Hitachi PP Installer reappears.
