For Linux(R) (x86) Systems HA Monitor Cluster Software

5.1 Installation and design procedures

This section describes the decisions that you must make according to the jobs your system will process before you evaluate the considerations on the installation of HA Monitor.

Determine the following beforehand:

The following describes the considerations and the decisions to be made based on this information before you install HA Monitor.

  1. Evaluation of hot-standby configuration

You must determine the items listed below based on such information as the number of jobs and the level of reliability and performance required. For details, see 5.2 Evaluation of hot-standby configuration.

    • Hot-standby configuration

    • Number of machines

    • Number of hosts

    • Whether LPARs are used

    • Whether virtual machines are used

  2. Evaluation of server configuration

You must determine the items listed below based on the programs used for the jobs. For details, see 5.3 Evaluation of server configuration.

    • Unit of hot standby operation (server)

    • Server operation method (server mode or monitor mode)

    • Placement of servers

    • Number of servers

    • Number of programs (when using the program management function)

  3. Evaluation of resources configuration

You must determine the items listed below based on the resources used by the programs. For details, see 5.4 Evaluation of resources configuration.

    • Required resources

    • Number of resources

    • How to share resources

  4. Evaluation of hardware configuration

After determining the servers and resources, you must determine a hardware configuration. For details, see 5.5 Evaluation of hardware configuration.
