For Linux(R) (x86) Systems HA Monitor Cluster Software

1.5.2 FEP mode

In the FEP mode, server systems called FEPs are placed between the host computer and distributed computers and terminals. Typically, the host computer and FEPs are connected via a high-speed LAN. FEPs perform for the host computer some of the communication protocol processing and job processing that are normally performed by the host computer.

Installing HA Monitor on the FEPs enables you to reduce downtime at the FEPs that is caused by failures, minimize the amount of time the center's job processing is suspended, and improve reliability at the host computer.

The following figure shows an example of the FEP mode.
