For Linux(R) (x86) Systems HA Monitor Cluster Software

6.3.6 Specifying the kernel parameters

If you change the default value (which is 16) for the maximum number of servers that can run concurrently or you change the default value for the maximum number of hosts when using HA Monitor Extension to a value greater than 32, you must change the kernel parameters. You can display the kernel parameters by using the sysctl command of the OS. You can change the kernel parameters by modifying the /etc/sysctl.conf file (or the /etc/sysctl.d/99-sysctl.conf file if the OS is RHEL7 or a later version). The table below lists the two kernel parameters that must be changed and their values.

Table 6‒1: Kernel parameter settings (when changing the default values for the maximum numbers of servers and hosts)

Kernel parameter to be changed

Value to be specified

Specifying 64 as the maximum number of servers

Specify 128 or greater as the maximum number of servers

Specifying 33 or greater as the maximum number of hosts

net.core.rmem_max

303200 or greater

1048576 or greater

1048576 or greater

net.core.wmem_max

303200 or greater

1048576 or greater

1048576 or greater

Notes
  • If the default value for a kernel parameter is greater than the value shown in the table, there is no need to change the default value.

  • Specify the same value for both kernel parameters.

  • If the maximum number of servers that can be run concurrently is set to the default value (16), specify the default value or a greater value for the kernel parameters.
