6.1.1 When resetting hosts (BladeSymphony or HA8000)
This subsection explains a system configuration for BladeSymphony or HA8000 when hosts are reset.
- Organization of this subsection
(1) System configuration procedure
The figure below shows the system configuration procedure. For the system configuration procedure when HA Monitor Extension is used, see (2) System configuration procedure (when using HA Monitor Extension).
The following explains the correspondence between the purpose for configuring the system and the steps in the system configuration procedure that must be performed.
-
If you are installing HA Monitor and configuring a system for the first time
Perform all the configuration steps shown in the figure.
-
If you are adding hosts
If you are adding hosts to an existing hot-standby configuration, perform all the configuration steps shown in the figure. You need one HA Monitor per host.
Note that the step Configure VMware ESXi for use in HA Monitor operation is required only if VMware ESXi-based virtualization is used.
-
If you are adding servers
If you are adding servers to an existing hot-standby configuration, perform the configuration steps shown under Configuration steps when a server is added. The steps shown under Configuration steps when a host is added are not needed.
The step Create server start, termination, and monitoring commands is required only for added servers that will run in the monitor mode. In this case, the creation of a server start command is required, but creation of server termination and monitoring commands is optional.
The steps Create program restart commands, Create and configure UAPs, and Create definition files (monitor-mode program) are required only for added servers that will run in the monitor mode and use the program management function.
For details about how to install HA Monitor and notes about installation, see Release Notes.
For details about how to add hosts and servers to an existing system, see 7.10.1 Adding hosts and 7.10.2 Adding servers.
(2) System configuration procedure (when using HA Monitor Extension)
The following figure shows the system configuration procedure when HA Monitor Extension is used.
The following explains which steps in the system configuration procedure must be performed depending on the purpose for configuring the system.
-
If you are installing HA Monitor and HA Monitor Extension and configuring a system for the first time
Perform all the configuration steps shown in the figure.
-
If you are adding hosts
If you are installing HA Monitor Extension and adding hosts to an existing hot-standby configuration, perform all the configuration steps shown in the figure as needed on each host in the hot-standby configuration.
You need one each of HA Monitor and HA Monitor Extension per host.
Note that the step Configure VMware ESXi for use in HA Monitor operation is required only if VMware ESXi-based virtualization is used.
-
If you are adding servers
If you are installing HA Monitor Extension and adding servers to an existing hot-standby configuration, perform the configuration steps shown under Configuration steps when a server is added. The steps shown under Configuration steps when a host is added are not needed.
The step Create server start, termination, and monitoring commands is required only for added servers that will run in the monitor mode. In this case, creation of a server start command is required, but creation of server termination and monitoring commands is optional.
The steps Create program restart commands, Create and configure UAPs, and Create definition files (monitor-mode program) are required only for added servers that will run in the monitor mode and use the program management function.
For details about how to install HA Monitor and HA Monitor Extension and notes about installation, see Release Notes.
